You groaned and began to pull off the three dozen posters advertising Ronaldo’s blog that decorated your shop windows. Sure, you loved your crazy best friend (who still acted like a child besides being sixteen), but you had never given him permission to break into your shop in the middle of the night and put posters everywhere. Damn his crazy obsession with weird and wonderful paranormal activities. You thought he would finally give up his addiction when he discovered that everything weird that happened in Beach City was due to the Crystal Gems but noooooooo. He got even MORE addicted.
“I get he enjoys learning and discovering about the gems but does he have to destroy every one of my window displays with posters?” You groaned and pulled the remaining few posters off, stacking them in a neat pile on your counter with the blue-tac in a clump to the side. Maybe if you left one of his fliers on your notice board, maybe Ronaldo will stop violating your shop with his blog? Deciding this was a good idea, you tacked a poster up with the several other advertisements like Steven’s ‘Guitar Dad’ and Petey’s ‘Needed: Job position for Frybo open’. You really hoped this would work otherwise you are going to have a super serious talk with Ronaldo about your store’s personal space. With that done, you switched your ‘closed’ sign to open and propped the door open with a (f/c) painted rock to allow the sea breeze to enter and cool the surrounding air down. As you did work in Beach City and summer had just ended, business was slow like usual. Steven visited with Connie at one point and you gave them a free ice cream each from the cooler behind your counter. Other than that, nothing really happened until closing time.
When twisting your key in the lock, a large bang echoed from behind you and you turned to see the water in the sea lurch upwards before settling once again. Jumping off the walkway, you sandal-covered feet were smothered in sand and you walked closer to the water. Did the Crystal Gems do something again? If so you’d better film it or something, if not then Ronaldo will whine about it for the next two weeks or until they do something else.
Pulling out your phone, you switched your camera to recording and basically started the film with weird faces and commentary about what you were doing. As you placed your toes right in front of the water and let the salty liquid lap over your feet, a glint of red caught your attention. Turning your face towards the small glint of red, you crouched down and reached into the ocean, pulling the supposed ‘rock’ out of the sand. Standing back up and wiping the red rock on your shirt, you pulled it away and blinked as you recognised that it wasn’t a rock but the gem referred as ‘Jasper’. You had multiple shards of gems in your shop (all which were NOT fallen warriors or gemlings, as assured by Garnet) and sold some full gems, so you knew at least a little knowledge about gems and rocks.
“Huh, cool. I wonder how this Jasper got here? I don’t believe they form in watery environments… Or do they?” You shrugged and noticed instead of it being a wobbly shape or a ‘blob’ like usual Jaspers, it was actually very finely cut. Each edge was sharp but not sharp enough to harm someone. And it was a lot shiner than other Jaspers. It was rather beautiful.
“Woah, you truly are a beautiful Jasper. You’re much different than the Jaspers in my shop.” Smiling softly, you tucked the gem safely into your pocket and walked back to the walkway. You switched your phone off after ending your recording with ‘There wasn’t anything there Ronaldo, so no whining. Kay?’ And so ended your uneventful day.
Or so you thought.
When you reached your house next to Vadalia, a lovely middle-aged woman with two kids, you entered with a soft sigh and kicked off your shoes. Emptying your pockets and throwing all the rubbish in the bin, you picked up the Jasper and carried it to your bathroom to get rid of the remaining salt and sand on it. You bathed it in warm water for a minute or so, wiped it with a flannel and dried it with one of your towels. The Jasper now seemed to gleam under your bathroom light. Smiling at its appearance, you carried it back to your bedroom and found a small box that used to carry some piece of jewellery you owned, placing it on the plush surface so to not damage it. God it looked good.
