I toss and turn, heat in my face, until I feel cool hands gently shake me awake. A lonely flame danced alone to a song of sadness only it could hear. The flame framed a not so happier figure. Dark bags under her eyes suddenly highlighted, making her appear more awake.
"Happy Birthday Anita." The figure whispered, her smile not so much stretching all the way up to her eyes. I blow out the candle wishing to grow up strong to get my mom and I out of here.
"Thanks momma." I smile happily, though it cannot be seen in the dark. Mommy lightly kisses my forehead, standing up and taking the bagel with her. I toss over shoving the small blanket under my chin.***
I hop down from the tree branch my long legs landing under me with a thump. Leaves crunch under my bare feet. Long brown hair stained with streaks of natural platinum blonde. My small breasts bounce with every pounding step.
I fly up the stairs and slam open the door, unaware of how loud the impact was.
"That damn girl!" Furious drunken male screams echo from the living room followed by loud snoring. Mom hurriedly shushes me, dragging me into the back room of the kitchen.
"Never. Ever. Slam that door again." Mom said looking worriedly at the door. I sigh looking in the same direction.
"Okay I'm sorry," I pause my deep blue eyes shining with child-like excitement, "But I met someone, in the forest." Mom whips around, her hair falling back swiftly back on her shoulders.
"Who?" She asks, worry dripping in her tone.
"His name is Jacob." I sigh happily, clasping my hands together and blushing, the soft pink glow dusting my cheeks.
"He sounds special honey; but, are you sure you can trust him?" She holds a hand over her mouth her eyes scanning my face.
"I can, I'm sure of it." I smiled happily, turning to look past her at the door. "I'm meeting up with him now." I smile sheepishly at her, rubbing the back of my neck.
"Just; be safe." She smiles at me, stepping out of the way ushering me out the door. I hug her and whisper a thank you in her ear, running out the door making sure to quietly close the door behind me.
I slip on my black high top converse and run down the stairs, jumping on the last step. I push myself to run fast, racking my brain to remember what path to take to get to the lake. I stop on the shore of the lake, looking along the shore to see if he was here. I see him some ways along the shore and call out his name.
"Jacob!" I yell and start running towards him. When I reach him, I jump into his arms. He lifts me up and swings me around, smiling and laughing.
"Hey An." He smiles happily placing a kiss on my nose and setting me down. I pull my white shirt over my head, revealing my white lace bra. I fling my shirt to the side and strip from my jean shorts, standing in only my bra and panties. I look at Jacob and giggle, watching him look me up and down. He smiles and pulls of his plain white tee shirt. My mouth hangs open and I smirk, placing a hand my hip. I run over and jump in the lake, splashing water everywhere. I paddle around, my feet barely scraping against the floor, laughing loudly. He jumps in after me grabbing me by the waist and throwing me around in the water.
***
I smile softly and slowly walk up the stairs. My stringy wet hair clings to my shirt and soaks it, revealing my bra. I open the door and turn around to a slap in the face. I fall to the ground. My cheek stings and I feel it growing red. My mom screams and I hear a loud smack. My blood boils and I shoot up grabbing the nearest object and flinging in at his head, hitting him and causing him to fall to the flooring bleeding.
"How dare you bitch!" He screams holding his head and standing up, a little wobbly. I punch him, pushing him backwards.
"No! How dare you!" My eyes start feeling itchy and a shocked look appears on my mother's face. Memories start flooding back and I grab onto the wall for support. "You couldn't catch me and you would take it out on your wife and your daughter? You are a pitiful excuse for a human being."
His face turns to shock and then anger. "Freyja."
"Yes, you fat drunken pig." My whole body feels lighter. I stand tall and proud, it felt good to be back. He stood still in shock. I smirked, slowly walking up to him. He walks backwards, running into the back counter.
"Scared of me now, eh?" I say snarkily.
He takes a deep breath. I walk away from him my body suddenly feeling heavier. I take one last look at him before exiting out the back screen door.***
A/N: this chapter isn't nearly as long as I wanted it to be but I just really wanted to post an update. I'm still preparing for end of the year tests because my teachers like to get us ready a month before testing actually starts 😑
