For those of you who don't know, Erland is Ladonia, a small micronation in Sweden.
---
As soon as Peter walked out of the room, holding his new Wingull, Pokeball in hand, all the happiness quickly disappeared.

Because he was immediately attacked in a fury of pecks from all sides, with immeasurable speed.

"Ow! Ow! Ow! OW! Not there! Ow! Stop it!" He cowered back from the attack, and watched as the Wingull settled back down, and started ruffling its feathers without a care in the world.

"So... Don't like you, huh?" Erland grinned at his brother. Unlike Peter, Erland was doing perfectly fine, Treeko balanced on his shoulder.

"Why does Treeko like you so much?" Peter complained, picking up the dozing Wingull.

"Well, let's see, I'm smart, handsome, str-"

"Ok, stop." Peter held up his hand, pouting, "Your being a jerk!"

"You won't have to see me anymore after this... Remember the plan?"

Peter's eyes lit up, "The plan!" The plan consisted the fact that they were to split up, and meet back in Switzerland, in a couple of months. Then, they would fly back to Sweden, and Peter would go back to visit Arthur.

"Well should we..."

"BYE, YOU INSUFFERABLE WANKER!" Peter screamed, running out the door.

"There he blows." Erland sighed, and headed out after him.

Peter first decided to head for Italy, that's where he wanted to go, to get his first badge. He knew that Mr. Veneziano, and Mr. Romano, were normal type Gym leaders... Which to him, didn't make much sense... Wasn't Mr. Romano's Vulpix as fire type?

"Vulpix" Peter typed into the Pokedex.

"Vulpix, the fox Pokemon, a Fire type-" That's all Peter needed to hear.

"So it was a fire type!" Peter grinned at his knowledge, but then thought, "Not like I'm complaining." Wingull was a water type after all.

"A normal type?" Peter thought about it, "Well that's resistant to..."

Peter quit thinking, and opened the Pokedex to the types page.

"Normal:
Strong Against: ...
Weak Agaist: Rock, Ghost, Steel
Resistant To: Ghost
Vulnerable To: Fighting."

A normal type didn't have a lot of weaknesses, however, it didn't have strengths. A good defense might be hard to put up with.

Peter already knew that he couldn't find a ghost type, and even if he did, the Eevee that Mr. Veneziano had, was resistant to it. That left rock, and steel. In all honestly, he didn't know which type was more common... He would just find one.

Checklist:

•Catch a Rock or Steel type.

•Train it to have good attack stats.

•Cannot have horrible defense stats.

So, he did the most logical thing to do, in such a situation, anyway.

He decided to run straight into the tall grass on both sides of the path.

Straight away, a mad Pokemon appeared right in front of him.

"Eek!" Peter yelped, which woke Wingull up, and caused it to attack the first moving thing in sight.

In a quick succession on Water pulse, Some pecking, and maybe even the beginning of a Quick Attack, the small helpless Weedle lay on the ground, the only damage to Wingull being the small strands of string shot sticking to its wings.

"Wingull!" The bird chirped happily, and picked up the bug, laying it in front of its trainer, who was still shocked by the recent events.

"Uh, Wingull?" Peter asked, slightly scared, "What did you just do?!"

"Wingull." Suddenly the seagull Pokemon's eyes became extremely dark, and seemed to bore into Peter's soul. It started pecking at the satchel Peter had been wearing.

"You want this...?" Peter thought on it for a second or so, "Oh! You want food right?"

"Wingull!" Suddenly it went back to its normal position, nodding as Peter removed the small can of Pokemon food, but as soon as he went to feed Wingull, it turned around, before flying back to the satchel, and pecking again.

"What? You want THIS?" Peter reached into his bag for the only other edible thing, that Wingull would even consider wanting. (He was pretty sure birds didn't like Snickers bars)

"I-if you say so, I guess..." Peter emptied the mayonnaise packet into a small bowl, and Wingull immediately slurped it up, which wasn't a easy task with a beak.

"Wingull." It was happy again, and fell asleep right there.

"I'll never figure you out." Peter turned around, to see the knocked-out Weedle once again, "Huh?" Peter grabbed a Pokeball from his waistband, "It might work..."

He tapped the round sphere once, enlarging it, before clicking the white button, and pressing it to the body of the Weedle.

Ding.

A red light.

Ding.

The ball shook.

Ding.

All was still...

And then...

Stars appeared around the Pokeball, as it stopped shaking, the Weedle now part of Peter's team.

For a second Peter stood still, before letting his smile enlarge.

"I just caught a Weedle...!"

It wasn't a Rock, or a Steel type, but it was his first Pokemon. And, even if Wingull was mysterious, they were still partners, and Peter felt more confident than he had in his entire life.
