Chapter 3

It had been a week since Syrera had given her speech at Raki, and now all of the troops, even the ones from other training camps, where in place. Now all they had to do was wait until the scouting troops had come back from scouting the tunnels. Syrera didn't want for the troops to enter the Dornier all guns blazing, as who knows what had entered, if anything had entered, after the slaughtered dwarves where found.

Tanya also had been found slaughtered in a ditch five days ago, her face had been mauled so bad that no one had been able to identify her. Three days later Ravyne had been called in and after spending some time examining her called in Syrera. Whatever had killed Tanya must have been one hell of a fighter because Tanya had been brought up with twelve brothers, and had learned to fight accordingly. Tanyas skills with a pick axe were equal to Ravynes with a bow and arrow. When Syrera saw her she fell to her knees and Ravyne winced at the silence that fell as Syrera sobbed into her hands and then ran over to her, hugging her, telling her it would be alright. Syrera had still not recovered.

Syrera stood beside the window and looked out into the dancing rain that poured out of the sky and down into the courtyard below. She felt lost and dead to the world like there was nothing left. Even the gods seemed lost, why had they not come to her aid as they had before, they had promised her there unconditional support on this mission, but what good was it doing her now.

There was a knock at the door and Syrera turned to it, as Padala slipped into the room, her frizzy aurban hair bouncing around her ears. She had a dark purple dress on, with flowy sleeves and a golden belt.

"Hello," Syrera said stiffly, she had barely talked to anyone over the last few days, let alone slept or ate. Her cheeks were becoming holo and there were dark circles under here eyes. The shock of what append to Tanya still hung heavy over her, "To what do I owe this pleasure? Please take a seat." She turned back to the window.

"You need to talk to your people they are frightened, the word has gotten around, the incident with Tanya...." she stopped as syrera slumped onto the window and started to sob, not knowing what to do Padala became rigged and tried to think of what to say. Instead what came out of her mouth was pathetic, even when she wanted to say more all she could come up with was, "You still haven't gotten over it, have you?" syrera nodded her head and unleashed one of the many throwing knives that were attached to her belt. This one had a garnet encrusted hilt. She flung it at the opposite wall, hitting the centre of a portrait that hung there. Padala flinched.

"It'll be alright," padala sighed, "I'll blow up the basted who did that to her, we all know what she meant to you," and then added in a hushed voice, " being and orphan and all."

Padala looked over at Syrera just in time to see her faint and crash to the ground, no sleep and eating did that to a person.

"Jesus Christ,"Padala screamed, "Syrera, don't die on me, please, we all need you."

***

Syreras eyes were hazy as she opened them to find herself in her bed. Padala and Ravyne were crouched in the corner, probably discussing plans or tactics. Syrera was good at hearing snippets of conversation but now she was to tired, let alone hungry, to focuse on listening.

Padalas eyes flickered over to Syrera and lit up when she saw Syrera eyes wide open and staring at them. She leaned over and whispered to Ravyne and then promptly left the room.

"Syrera, you need to eat," explodes Ravyne as she quickly made her way over to Syrera bedside, "let alone sleep, do you know now much of a fright you gave padala when you fainted, she almost forgot she could do magic.." Syrera zoned out, it was an of course that Ravyne would go off on a tangent. She went back to what had happened days before, Tanya dead, it could only be fate and the lady, playing at it again, she didn't want to play there game again, their game was unfair, full of twists and turns that made ones blood boil.

She returned to the convocation just in time to hear Ravyne say the one thing she wanted to know at this point, " and this is what happens, you faint and lose consciousness for two days, twelve hours and fifteen minutes. You should be ashamed." Ravyne was highly accurate when it came to numbers, that included kills on the battle feild.

The door creeped open and in waltzed Padala, a tray of food in her hands.  Syrera nearly fell out of beef she was soo eager to eat, the loss of Tanya had put to much pressure on her, and not eating had obviously made it so much worse.

"Here you are," chirped Padala, as she handed Syrera the tray, " you had me worried, I'm so glad you woke up, I almost thought my spell didn't work." "Oh no," Syrera contradicted, " I feel on top of the world, thank you soo much."
Ravyne looked from Padala to Syrera with a an overly protective mother expression. For a moment Syrera thought she was going to order Padala out of the room.

After a long convosation with both Padala and Ravyne, Syrera decided that  she needed her sleep and ordered them out of her room. Her thoughts wondered towards her people and she made a mental note that tomorrow she was going to make a public speech and get in touch with the Queen of the Dragons, as she owed Syrera one.
