Chapter 1 – Hello Boys!

We were running; we were being chased and we were running, and then we were staring around us at the beauty of a new world being born. It was breathtaking and beautiful and then, suddenly, I was throwing myself in front on Dad and then there was the pain, just pain and the beauty of the new world around me. I could hear Dad calling my name, telling me to hold on, that it’s all going to be ok and that we’re going to go and travel the stars together. I tried to believe him, and I tried to hold on, I really did. But the two women behind him were crying: the woman with the hair like fire and the woman who had been with the Hath, both of them holding onto each other and crying. My head was in Dad’s lap and he was talking to me, telling me of all the places that we’d travel to, and of all the new worlds that I’d see and how we’d run, of how we’d start running and never stop. He said that I had to hold on and then we’d fly away in his TARDIS and be a proper family. And I tried to hold on. But I could feel the hole in my stomach and the new world was going fuzzy and Dad’s voice was getting further and further away. I gasped for air but couldn’t seem to find any. I heard Dad call my name “Jenny!” and then the new world, with all its colour and beauty went black.

……………………………….

I’m lying on a bed. My eyes are closed and I’m breathing softly. I fell like there’s a fire beginning to burn inside of me, centering on the hole in my stomach. But, wait, I got shot, I definitely got shot; that should have killed my, it did kill me – so why am I still breathing? I gasp and my eyes fly open as I sit bolt upright and see a puff of golden air coming out of my mouth. I look at it, curious, but then I hear another gasp from next to my bed and turn to see Cline and a Hath staring at me. I smile at them, “Hello Boys!”

Cline splutters something that sounds like “But…What…I…How…You’re…. Not Dead! I…Um…Going to find the General!” And he sprints off, leaving me alone with the Hath.

“So,” I say, “Fill me in, what’ve I missed?” The Hath bubbles something that I don’t catch a word of. I sigh, “Ok then, lets do it this way: Is my Dad still here?” The Hath shakes his head.

“Is he coming back?”

Another no.

“So he thinks I’m dead?”

Yes.

“Well, ok then. I guess that means there’s very little point in hanging around here.”

The Hath looks at me quizzically as I jump up off of the bed and blow him a kiss, then stroll out of the room. I peer up and down the corridor looking for people and trying to figure out the best way to go in order to get out of here; I’m bored of this place already and I’ve only been here for what: 36 hours? I mean, I was only created yesterday morning, I think it’s high time to go and explore some place new. My hearts skip and I grin as I see a sign at the end of the corridor labeled ‘Shuttle’ and I grin even more at the notice saying ‘No unauthorized entry’. Well. If that’s not an invitation to go in then I don’t know what is! So, I graciously accept the invitation and enter.

Inside is, well the only word for it is, a space ship. It’s not very big, but it looks like it’s about three times the size of the outside of Dad’s strange blue box. I know that I haven’t actually stopped smiling since I woke up, but, if it’s possible, this ship makes me smile even more. It’s absolutely gorgeous and the flight of stairs leading up to the open look like another invitation that it would be dreadfully rude to refuse, so I accept.

I can hear Cline calling my name (and the Hath bubbling it) as I shut the door and sit down in the Pilot’s seat. I flick around all the big, flashy, lighty, buttons and roll my eyes as I hear Cline’s voice over the intercom: “Jenny?! Jenny what are you doing? Come back!”

I laugh, “Sorry. Can’t stop. What are you gonna do, tell my Dad?”

“But where are you going?”

I look down at my hands, which are beginning to glow gold.

“Oh, I’ve got the whole universe! Planets to save, civilizations to rescue, creatures to defeat… and an awful lot of running to do!”

I hear him call my name one last time as I blast off towards the stars, my whole body now glowing with golden energy.

“So,” I say, “Where first?” and I smile as I feel the golden, fiery, energy surging and burning through me; putting my hands on the controls and laughing and whooping as everything around me explodes with golden light.
