~How it all happened~Kaycee
I step into the dark room, neon lights spraying the walls as music blares throughout the room. Faces and bodies merge together in dance, arms raised and mouths parted as they sing along to the upbeat song playing loudly. I watch as a girl grinds her hips into a darker haired guy behind her, holding a red cup in her right hand.
I push through the crowd, earning a few dirty looks as I bump into stranger's shoulders. I grimace at the smell of alcohol, weed, and musk. I can practically feel the sweat and heat radiating from the people around me. I strain my neck as I look around the room, scanning the crowd for a familiar face. I sigh in relief as I spot her bouncy curls as she sways to the music.
I utter a loud,"excuse me," as I shove past a darker skinned girl. I smile tightly as she moves to the right, allowing me to pass. Her long, straightened hair sways against her back as she turns to her friends, not sparing me a second thought.
A few moments later, I stand behind my best friend."T!" I yell, bending to her ear. She jumps, letting a small shriek before turning around. She smiles brightly when she sees me, a drink cupped in her small hand.
"Kayc! When did you get here?" She slurs, wrapping her arm around my shoulders. I return her embrace, encirciling my arm around her waist. She's drunk, I can already tell by the way she slurs her words and stumbles as she walks.
"Just now," I speak, barely audible over the speakers.
I cluch Tahani's shirt, dragging her towards what looks like a very uncomfortable couch.
"Where's your boyfriend?" She giggles, slapping my arm playfully as we fall against the stiff cushions. I sigh, pulling her arm from around my shoulders, brushing the lose hair from my eyes.
"I don't have a boyfriend," I speak honestly, leaning my head back. I already feel the headache coming, a small pinch forming on the sides of my skull.
She huffs, "Yes you do," she whines, crossing her arms over her chest. I shake my head, frustration bubbling to my chest,
"Sean and I are just friends, T." I feel slight pain in my stomach, a certain sorrow as I say the words. I curse the feelings inside of myself, pushing them away as I always do. I can't lose my best friend, and if that means keeping my true feelings about him bottled up, then that's what I'm going to do. "He didn't want to come," I say finally, feeling her burning glare.
She turns, bringing the cup to her lips. "Fine, whatever. But, you guys are definitely getting married." She laughs to herself, tilting her head as the liquid rolls into her mouth.
I quickly reach out to the drink, bringing in away from her grasp.
"Okay, I think that's enough of alcohol for you tonight." I stand, tossing the cup into a big black garbage bag in the corner of the room. All the while, Tahani protests behind me, throwing a fit as of she were a six year old not getting their way."T," I laugh, "stop whining." She only glares at me again, rolling her eyes. She spins, her curls twirling with her, as she walks away.
"Where are you going?" I yell, holding up my hands in annoyance. She continues, her back to me as she pushes her way through the crowd. "To get more alcohol, mom," she mocks over her shoulder sarcastically. I sigh, running my fingers through my soft curls. My arms then fall back to my sides, my hands slapping my thighs slightly. What am I supposed to do now? I only came here for her.
I decided, after about two seconds, to go home. Not that hard of a decision, really. I take a deep breath, getting ready to fight my way through the sea of people.
"Kaycee?" A voice questions, their grin heard easily. I turn on my heels slowly, squinting as I spot the figure walking towards me. My blood seems to run cold as I take in their features, all the ugly memories rushing back.
"Micheal," I state, watching as my ex boyfriend makes his way to the spot I'm standing at. I brace myself, smiling tightly as he comes up in front of me. He wears a huge grin, his white teeth illuminated in the dark space. He holds, like most of eveyone here, a drink in his hand.
He snakes his arm around my shoulders, embracing me in a rather awkward side hug. He squeezes my right shoulder tightly, and I begin to feel uneasy, unsafe. I pull away, clearing my throat, "How are you?"
He licks his lips, nodding, "I'm good." We stand in loud silence as he rocks on his feet, his left hand occupying his pant's pocket. He drinks from his cup. He laughs loudly when he sees me watching. As he lowers it from his face, he raises his eyebrows,"You want one?"
I shake my head, "No, I was just leaving actually," I say, pointing towards the front door. I turn, wanting to be out of the suffocating space as fast as possible.
"Oh come on," he yells, grabbing my wrist, "just one drink." I snatch my arm from his grip, narrowing my eyes at him. "I said no, Micheal. I just want to go home." I begin towards the exit again, rushing through the crowd. I don't make it far before his snatches my arm, his grip tight enough this time to leave a mark. I gasp as he yanks me to him, bending to my ear. "You're not going anywhere." His hot breath fans over my face, reeking of alcohol.
I pull at his rough fingers, gritting my teeth, "Let me go," I beg quietly, scared of what he would do if I made a scene. He never once touched me before, not like this, so I never had a reason to be afraid. But now, as his grip bruises my skin, shock and fear rises like a tidal wave in my chest.
"Not yet, Rice," he spits harshly, "I'm not quite done with you."
