His head hung low, Hyunjin walked down the school hallway toward the elevator door. The school had three floors and the elevator was usually used for kids who had projects or wheelchairs, but he used it just because he was too lazy to walk down all three flights of stairs. Besides, there was no one left at school anyway, everyone had already gone home.

He pressed the down button on the side of elevator doors, despite the weird feeling in his stomach. Something felt off. What that ‘something’ was, he wasn't sure, but something wasn't right. The door slid open, revealing the small, dimly lit, metal room. Hyunjin walked in, slowly and hesitantly, the flickering light really wasn't helping his situation at the moment.

I mean, he was in the perfect setting for a horror movie: all alone in a dark school, standing in a rickety, old elevator with a flickering light. What was worse than that?

The slam the elevator doors made as they closed made Hyunjin jump, bringing him back to the reality he wished he wasn't in. He felt the elevator begin to move down, as each second passed, he was getting close to the ground floor, closer to home.

Just as he begun to think of the safety and warmth of his home, the elevator shook and came to a harsh stop. Hyunjin looked away from the buttons and to the numbers above the elevator doors. They read “Floor 0”. Hyunjin began to get suspicious, that wasn't a thing. When he turned his head back to the buttons, they were gone. How could they have just disappeared like that? They were right there a few minutes ago, he was sure of it.

The heavy metal doors opened to an unfamiliar hallway. There were only a few lights and all of them were very dim, almost nothing could be seen. The concrete walls were damp and green vines could be seen climbing up the walls.

His steps even more hesitant then before, Hyunjin took a few steps forward. The hallways were deathly silent, the only sound that could be heard was the sound of Hyunjin’s shoes ringing through the silence. Could this day get any weirder? Where even was he?

Hyunjin decided to retrace his steps, starting with this morning. He woke up and… Wait. Why couldn’t he remember anything before he got into the elevator? There is something very wrong. His memory was gone, the school doesn’t have a “floor 0”, and buttons definitely didn’t just disappear off elevator walls.

He didn’t have many other choices than to continue forward, slowly setting one foot in front of the other.

After what felt like hours of walking down random hallways, in some kind of maze with only the sound of his own footsteps and breathing, he heard a second pair of footsteps. Hyunjin stopped walking, stopped breathing, and listened to any other sound around him. The footsteps, that he thought was just an echo, didn’t stop when he did. They kept walking, the noise got louder and louder. Hyunjin could hear the sound of loud heavy breathing, coming from behind him. Eventually, he spun around to figure out where the breathing, soon to turn to sobs, was coming from. There was nothing there, not the smallest piece of evidence of human presence, just the damp concrete halls and dark green vines infested with spiders. He picked up speed but continued walking.

The breathing Hyunjin heard earlier became loud sobs, this time coming from everywhere, the sound flooding his ears. Soon, there were, what sounded like, two people sobbing. Hyunjin picked up his speed and began to run, no longer trying to stay calm. The sound of the crying seemed familiar, but this was the least of his worries.

Not once stopping, Hyunjin ran for about five to ten minutes before coming to a doorway, a blinding light spilling out into to hallways. If the spiders weren’t obvious before they definitely were now. Entering the doors seemed to be his only option, so he took the risk, putting one foot first into the bright light. As soon as he was fully engulfed in the light he could see nothing and a high pitched screeching noise could be heard. The sound of a heart monitor.

After a few seconds, the light was gone and he could see a red hair boy, holding his hand tightly with a sad look in his eyes. Was he in a hospital room? Hyunjin asked as he observed the white walls and thin sheets that covered him. The redhead noticed Hyunjin’s newfound consciousness and his eyes lit up. “Jisung, go get the doctor, he’s finally awake!” The boy yelled to a second person, who Hyunjin hadn’t noticed before. A person who he could only assume was Jisung, got out of the seat and ran to get someone.

“Where am I?” Hyunjin croaked, extremely confused and his vocal cords strained from lack of use.

“You’re in the hospital, You’ve been in a coma for a year now. I can’t believe you’re finally awake!” The redheaded boy explained, who Hyunjin slowly started to remember as his boyfriend, Seungmin.

“You know, I had the weirdest dream.”
