"Isn't she lovely.
Isn't she wonderful.
Isn't she precious.
Less than one minute old."
I'm standing on the side of the X-Factor stage, Harry's mum and sister by my side. His mum is on the verge of tears, tears of joy, wathcing her son's dreams come true. On the other hand, I can't stop smiling, I'm so happy that he's finally able to perform on the X-Factor; it's been his dream ever since he joined White Eskimo at the age of 14.
I still remember how my best friend, Gemma, set me up with my curly haired, boyfriend, Harry...
It all started one night when I was sleeping over at Gemma's house. She had never invited me over before and I was really excited to finally see where my best friend lived. I was fourteen at the time and Gemma was 17. Yes, yes, I know what your thinking, "How is a 14 year old best friends with someone who is 17!?" But its true. Some people may find it really strange that the two of us were friends, seeing the age difference and all, but we were like sisters really. I was like the younger sister she never had and she was the older sister I never had.
So anyway, Gemma was painting my nails a nice shade of mint green, my favorite color, when her door bursts open and standing in the frame was a boy, about my age, with wet hair. It was already starting to curl and he asking about a hairdryer. When he noticed that Gemma wasn't alone, he cut himself short and said, "Who's the girl?" and a cheeky grin began to appear on his face.
"Her name is Kayla and the hairdryer is in the bathroom cupboard! Now get out!" Gemma said as she threw a pillow at him.
I knew that this had to be her brother Harry; he was just as she had described him.
That was the first time I ever saw him.
I had been looking for a summer job and since school had already let out, I was just about ready to give up. But then one day, Gemma called me up and said, "Hey! A job just opened up at the counter at W Mandeville bakery downtown!"
"Ill take it!" I said excitedly, without even thinking. I had no idea what I had just gotten myself into.
I started work that Saturday. When I walked into the shop, I had to go behind the counter, outback to get my uniform. I rounded the corner and who did I see? No other than Harry. He seemed just as shocked to see me, as I was to see him. He rubbed the back of his neck nervously with his hand and said, "Your uniform is, uh, over there." And pointed to a rack on the left of the room.
I took my uniform into the bathroom and changed. When I went behind the counter to start my shift, Harry was standing there too. "You have this shift too?" He asked me.
"Wait...this is your shift too?"
That was the first - and last - time Gemma played match-maker. And Let me tell you that, in my opinion, she was very sucessful.
I come out of my flashback just in time to see Harry come off of the stage, the biggest grin on his face. I didn't hear what the judges said to him, but from the expression on his face, I'm going to guess that he made it through to the areana round! I expected him to hug his mum first, but instead he jogs towards me and pulls me into a tight bear hug, picking me up off of the ground. I just love the way he does that when he is excited! I give him a little kiss on the cheek and say, "Congratulations, Haz!"
He runs over to Gemma and his mum and wraps both of them into a tight group hug. When he finally lets them go, he walks back towards me. Whoa! He grabbed my hand and started dragging me down the winding halls of the X-Factor Studios towards his dressing room.
