"Just call me Cecily, any updates on her?" Ms. Cecily asked.
"No ma'am, not yet. They said hopefully she'll be up by tomorrow but it's not proven yet. I've been here since she's been here."

"When she wakes up, please be there for her. Nurture her, never leave her side! Because she's gonna need you the most. Her best friend was more like a sister to her. Seeing how Chai's mom interacted with her, made me feel some type of way. My mom chose drugs over us, she chose to let us suffer for her pain. We went plenty of nights hungry, cold, in the dark. My mom was never there for us, basketball games, football games everyone else's mom was there in jerseys screaming and motivating their child meanwhile I can only search the bleachers praying one day my mom would pop up.

Watching Chai in this hospital bed crushed my heart so bad. Knowing that I play a big part in this, is killing me. I laid down on the pull out chair and just played on my phone until I drifted off to sleep.
"Chance, wake the fuck up!" My mom said yelling.
"Ma, what?"
"Where's that money, you came in here with earlier? So I can go pay the light bill before they disconnect the lights!"
"Mommy you promise you're going pay the light---"

I knew I was gonna regret telling her i found $300 on the ground earlier. But I was too excited, after seeing the disconnection notice, I felt like that was a sign from God that he was still there for my brother and I. I gave my mom the money watching her leave out, happy.

"Go find something to eat"

"Come on man!" I said getting up putting on my shoes. I was gonna have to go steal something for us to eat.
When I made it to the store, I went straight to the aisle and start stuffing food in my pants then headed towards the doors.
"Hey, hey, bring your ass back here!" The store manager said chasing me. I ran out of the store full speed running into an alley only to see a man and a woman arguing, I hid behind a dumpster so i wouldn't be seen.
"Chris, I only need a little bit. I need the rest of the money for my light bill" I then realized that woman was my mom.
"I need all my fucking money, you're always bumming sfomething bitch. What are you gonna do for this favor hoe" he said unzipping his pants.
I watched my mom suck this nigga dick for some damn crack. I was furious.
"MA!" I yelled making her jump.
"Chance what the fuck are you doing out the house" she said getting up wiping her mouth.

"Chai?" I said jumping up seeing she was sitting up looking at me.
"You were jumping in your sleep" she said.
