You could hear...Music...You couldn't understand why.Were you still alive?Your eyes opened slowly.Next to you a familiar song rang out.It was beautiful.
You knew exactly what it was.Your body was on the cold concrete floor and you could see the outline of BEN's tunic in the corner of your vision.The pain in your chest was still there, but it slowly faded, as if you had taken painkillers.You turned and saw BEN there, holding a blue ocarina to his lips.But that song."BEN?" You called.BEN's attention quickly went to you. He lowered the instrument away from his lips, seeming relieved that you were awake. He moved closer to you and placed a hand gently on your cheek."Its working. Just keep still for a little while longer."
But...
He noticed your blank, confused expression and tilted his head.He had played the song of healing.You remembered from many years ago.That dream you had.He hated that song.It hurt him.If he played the song himself he would-"No... BEN don't. You can't."He realized what you meant.You knew what would happen."I have to do this _____. I cant let you die." He said.You tried to sit up but felt waves of pain ripling through you.BEN noticed and tried to gently push you back down."No ____ dont move."You tried to reach for the ocarina, to take it away from him, but he held it out of your reach"BEN stop." You cried."This is the way it should be. I'm sorry.""But you'll die!""I'm already dead ______." He said sadly. "Please... forgive me for this."He put the instrument to his lips and began to play again. You could feel the pain in your chest numbing. However soon after the song began, BEN's breathing became labored. He struggled to hold the ocarina as each note seemed to send a shockwave of pain through him. The song was beautiful...
Beautiful and painful at the same time.You couldn't let him do this."BEN no! You have to stop! Please!" BEN ignored your pleas and continued playing.You tried to reach for him but he moved away from you.As beautiful as the music sounded and how quickly its healing powers affected you, when the song neared its end, you noticed BEN's color beginning to fade. He played the the last four notes in the ocarina, the wound in your side beginning to heal completely.However, BEN looked dim, trasparent even."BEN... don't leave me alone."He looked down at you, his eyes were glassy, as it tears could fall at any moment."I never wanted to." He whispered."Then why are you doing this? It's not fair!" The tears that were threatening to spill finally cascaded down your cheeks."I want you to go home _____. Live a long, good life, like the one I took from you all those years ago. Be happy. Promise me." His eyes looked sad but hopeful. He gently wiped the tears from your face.You grabbed ahold of his hand."But you make me happy."BEN shook his head, staring at you in disbelief."How can you say that, after everything I've done?" You reached towards the nearly-healed wound in your side, touching it, and blood covered your fingers. You held your hand out towards him."Because I forgive you."BEN looked down at your hand. Closing his eyes and sighing, he glanced up at you, taking your hand in his.You quickly leaned forward and pulled him into a kiss, closing your eyes. At first he was surprised, but he soon returned the embrace.BEN couldn't help but smile.
Even if he couldn't feel you, his heart felt everything.
After he pulled away and held you there, your head against his chest, he brushed a hand through your hair."_____... it wasn't the game that kept me alive."He leaned down, his lips brushing against your ear."It was you."You heard the rain outside slow to a light mist.A cold breeze blew through your hair.Your arms fell.And you opened your eyes.You were alone.
