Lucas POV
My mom texted me that she was working late and I needed to pick up Reggie from the park. That was an hour ago and I was late. The little guy must've been scared.
I pulled up to the park in my black Camaro. I had to switch my motor for my car since my mom doesn't trust Reggie on it. I got off and searched for Reggie. What I found was an interesting sight to see.
It was Levine, the shy stuttering Levine, doing a victory dance beside my brother as he giggles at her.
"What's going on here?" I interrupt. She stops dancing and turns around shyly. Reggie gives me a mean face.
"You're late Lucas." He points.
"I'm sorry bro I'll make it up to you how about some ice cream. Strawberry vanilla swirl with pop rocks." I say his favorite ice cream flavor knowing he can't turn it down. He puts his finger on his chin in a thinking pose.
"Hmm on one condition." He holds up his index finger.
"Oh boy." I look at Levine and roll my eyes. She giggles covering her mouth with her hands. She has a pretty smile she shouldn't cover it up.
What did I just think.
"I'll forgive you," he starts, "if Levine comes with us." Well that wasn't expected.
"I-I-I d-don't know about th-that R-Reggie I have to be h-home soon." She says looking to me for help.
"I don't have a problem with it." I say she playfully glares at me and Reggie tugs on her shirt.
"Come on Levine, please." Reggie begs. Wow he must really like her.
"Fine, b-but I have to be home b-by 5:15." She turns around and starts walking.
I give Reggie a hive five, but just as I go to pull away he tugs me down to his height.
"I know what you're trying to do Lucas and it won't work. I knew and saw Levine way before you, so whatever's running through your little head about her, stop it." With that he calls for Levine to wait up and catches up with her.
What just happened?
He just called my head little.
I look up ahead at them and see Levine pick him up and laugh at something he whispers in her ear they both glance back at me before giggling.
"Hey what are you laughing at?" I shout.
"Nothing" Reggie says, but at the same time Levine says, "R-Reggie said your f-face turns cherry r-red when your fr-frustrated, because your head is s-small," with a slight giggle at the end.
Aww her cuteness made me almost forget the insult. Almost.
"Hey not true! Reggie!" I yell as he runs into the ice cream shop.
"If it makes you f-feel any b-better ch-cherries are my f-favorite." Levine almost whispers. I smirk at her shyness.
"Thanks that actually did make me feel better, Princess." I walk in before she can say anything about the little nickname I gave her.
Levine's POV
I stood there shocked. He called me princess. More surprisingly I liked it. I shake the thought out of my head.
Come on, Levine, a guy like that and a girl like you. Like that'll ever happen. He has a girlfriend anyway. I walk into the ice cream shop and an instant wave of sweets hits me. My eyes widen in awe at all the sweets I see. Rows and rows of candy lined up against the walls. Shelves filled with donuts, chocolates bars, cookies, brownies and more.
I finally get to where Reggie and Lucas are standing in front of a glass that secures many flavors of ice cream. There are about thirty different ice cream flavors.
"What do you want?" Reggie asks me.
"I-I don't know, th-there are s-so many." I whisper.
"Well, I think they have triple fudge. Chocolate ice cream with brownies and Oreos. You said that was your favorite right." I nod my head glad I wouldn't have to go through thirty different flavors.
We all order our ice cream. Me with triple fudge , Reggie with Strawberry vanilla swirl with pop rocks, and Lucas with just chocolate.
"I-I still c-can't believe y-you only got chocolate." I tell him. They were walking me home now apparently they live right up the street to us.
"Well I did so believe it," he said with a pout.
Cute.
I continue to eat my ice cream, aware of both of the boys looking at me.
"D-do I have s-something on m-my face." I ask touching my cheeks.
"No." The boys say simultaneously. Weirdos.
I continue eating until we get to my house. I can't believe I spent the day with Reggie and Lucas. But now it's time to get back to my regular life.
"Th-thanks for walking m-me home guys. See y-you at school L-Lucas. And see y-you at the park, R-Reggie." I wave them goodbye. I see them walk away, and slowly enter the house. The lights were off and I really hoped Aunt Dee was asleep.
I walk past the kitchen and the lights flick on. I turn slowly and see Aunt Dee standing by the sink. Behind her I see a clock. 6:27. Dang it. I'm an hour late. I'm never late.
"You are an hour late. Where have you been?" She hisses angrily.
"I was at the ice cream place with friends." I defend. That's when Stella comes in the kitchen and scoffs.
"Friends? What friends? You're a loser." I would've bragged in her face that I was with Lucas freaking Grey but I didn't want to make things worse than they are.
Aunt Dee comes over to me and slaps me in the face, and Stella nods satisfied. I hold my swollen cheek, wincing, in surprise. A tear falls down my face stinging my cheek even more.
"That's for lying. Now where were you at really?" She yelled in my face. When I didn't answer she pushed me really hard into the door. The doorknob dug into my back harshly and I fell to the floor. That's gonna leave a bruise.
"Answer me!" She yells.
"I did!" I yell back, earning me a kick in the rib.
"Next time don't be late!" With that her and her daughter leave the kitchen with smiles on their faces.
It's okay Levine, just one more year in this place than you can leave for good.
I go down to the basement, aka my bedroom, and check my savings. All 1,500 dollars still here. It's not much but it's enough. I slowly get dressed trying to avoid rubbing my bruises. There was a slight purple bruise on my cheek but I doubt it'd be there tomorrow.
I lay down in my bed and let sleep consume me.
