I bite the end of my pencil. Algebra is stupid. I decide to give my dumb mind a break. I grab my phone and text my roomy Stephanie. My other room-mate, Abigail, is out who knows where with her boyfriend so it's normally just Stephanie and I hanging around. I look around the room out of boredom and my eyes set on one of Abigail's pieces. She is a very talented artist and hangs many of her canvass on the walls of our tiny room. This particular one was very simple and reminded me of her and Aaron, her boyfriend. It's of a young couple holding each other, looking out toward a lake in the sunset. My mind wanders away and I catch myself thinking if I will ever find someone for me. As I come back to reality, I realize my next class starts in 5 minutes. I shove my things in my bag and pull on a hoodie. I swing my bag over my shoulder and rush out the door.
I make it to my next class just as the professor walks in. She looks very stressed and drops all her papers as she stumbles through the door. I get up to help her just as boy my age, named Spencer, crouches down to help me. He takes all the paper from my hands. "I've got it sunshine." He says with a wink. I don't even blush. I roll my eyes and sit back down. The professor thanks him and walks to the front of the room. She clears her throat and begins. I lay my head in my hands and somewhat listen to what she's saying. She finally finishes her lecture. "Mrs. Green? Can you tell me what I just told the class?" She asked me. I stared at her.
"No ma'am, I can't. But maybe Mr. Perfect can." I said giving Spencer a death stare. I've known Spencer for about a year now. And he is my arch nemesis. A total ladies man, straight-A student, and teacher's pet. He pleases everyone. Everyone except me.
"I can actually, Autumn." He exclaimed and smiled proudly. He said some gibberish and turned back and winked at me. I gagged and rolled my eyes.
"Thank you Spencer!" She said and went back to her lesson. After class I walked back to my dorm, every now and then plotting revenge on Spencer. I unlocked my dorm door and plopped my body on my bed. I let down my curly blonde hair and started my journaling homework.
I was about 30 minutes into it when the emergency meeting alarm rang. I pounced out of bed, grabbed my phone and ran out the door down to the auditorium. The stands were full so I ended up standing in the back. Oh, and guess next to who? Mr. Perfect! Ugh...I stand there, very uncomfortable while other girls flirt with him and others file in to the large room. Finally everyone is here and the meeting starts. The principal stands up and walks to the podium. She clears her throat and begins.
"We have a terrible crisis on our hands at the moment. 14 students have disappeared." She announced. There were gasps and whispers throughout the room. "I know just how you feel. This has been going on since the past 2 days and I am sorry for just now informing you. The missing students are, Shannon Ingram, Kelvin Carpenter, Ervin Griffin, Douglas Jeffery, Alan Robbins, Pearl Day, Max Fields, Lance Wright, Kenny Guzman, Harvey Luna, Stephanie Bruner," As soon as I heard Stephanie's name, the world stopped. All I could hear was the principal saying Stephanie's name over and over again. She said Stephanie Bruner's name. My Stephanie. Everything we had was missing. All the memories, the secrets, and Stephanie were gone. My breathe was shaky and I started to cry. I didn't care how many people could see me. I just let it out. I felt an arm wrap around my shoulder's and I flinched at the gesture. I turned and saw Spencer. As much as I hated him, this was calming. The principal finished her speech and we were free to leave. It was dark outside now and because of recent events, I was afraid to walk outside alone. I stood in the doorway, staring out at the road. My dorm wasn't far but still, it's dark, and everyone had a car.
"You coming Sunshine?" Said Spencer. He was standing outside his blue truck but something about the tone of his voice seemed off.
"What's in it for you?" I said, crossing my arms.
"Look, you getting in or not?" He said clearly annoyed.
"Fine." I said. I sat in the driver's seat and thought. Mr. Perfect, annoyed? Now that's a first.
"Did you know anyone who was missing?" I ask, breaking the silence.
"Nosey much?" He snaps. I jump, surprised at the answer.
"Jeez, just asking." I said glaring at him, but his focused stayed on the road.
We arrived at my dorm and I thanked him. "Anytime Sunshine." He said. I rolled my eyes again and opened my door as he drove off. I layed on my bed and shoved my face into a pillow and cried myself to sleep.~~~~~~
