STAGE 10: Liars

The PalmWoods school was a building all to itself, connected to the residence by a large glass door that served as one of its many other entrances. It wasn't that big, but it was enough to fulfill ordinary school needs such as a classroom, a science lab and a spacious cafeteria situated just beside the PalmWoods park. Only those associated with TV, film or music were allowed to enroll in the school, which was why as Kendall, James, Carlos and Logan entered through the glass doors and took a glance at the students loitering around the hallway, they began to feel slightly nervous.

Most of the students there were also staying in the PalmWoods residence, so it was quite easy recognizing familiar faces. Those people, however, showed little interest in the boys; they casted strange looks and whispered among each other every once in a while, but later shrugged it off and continued on their businesses as if new recruits were of no importance at all. Despite such an awkward atmosphere, the boys forced themselves to walk inside. Kelly had strictly told them to behave themselves and avoid trouble at all costs- whether it was among themselves or with the other kids. She had also said that this was their chance to fix their relationship with one another and help each other out if things get rough. Although it seemed unlikely to happen, it was the only thing stopping them from turning around and walking out of the school at the moment.

As they ventured further in the building, they begun to recieve different reactions from the people around them. The girls shot James cute smiles and small waves in which he happily returned with his own. To Carlos, the students merely let out silent giggles, and when Kendall randomly gave out friendly greetings to anyone passing by, they'd politely greet him back. The only person nobody seemed to notice was Logan, who kept his gaze down as if he was too afraid to meet everyone's gazes. He didn't want to look up for fear of seeing hateful eyes glaring at him, taunting him, intimidating him. Sure, this was a new school and they probably knew nothing about him, but he wasn't taking any chances.

A group of girls nearby suddenly spotted them and called for James, beckoning for him to come over. Delighted, James flashed a charming grin and started to make his way to them when he was abruptly pulled back.

"Ow! Geez, what's your problem?!" He hissed at Kendall, who had an iron grip on his arm.

Kendall did not flinch. His green eyes were stern and his gaze was hard. "Weren't you listening to Kelly? We're supposed to stick together and have each other's backs! How're we supposed to do that if you go wandering off with a bunch of girls?"

James let out an annoyed sighed and rolled his eyes. "You're making this such a big deal. Besides, Kelly's not here to watch our every little move, so stop telling me what to do."

"This isn't a matter of who's watching over us, it's about how we need to be there for each other," Kendall scolded. "If you go around in your own crowd, you're gonna forget about us and it'll be just like how it was back in Minnesota. We're gonna have to change, James. Don't you remember what we promised? We'd let-"

"Don't you start on that damn promise, Knight!" James snapped angrily, and taken aback, Kendall let go of his arm. "Just because we made a stupid promise to get along and be a good band together doesn't mean I can't be friends with whoever I want! You're not the boss of me, and that little promise doesn't work here in school. We're on our own, and I don't ever wanna be seen with idiots like you around here. Got that?!"

He didn't wait for a response. With a final glare, he whipped around and casually made his way to the girls, the stormy expression on his face immediately replaced with a bright sunny smile. Not willing to let it go without teaching James a lesson, Carlos was about to strode over to him when Kendall called for him to stop.
