Before I begin this story I would like to thank the men and women who played a crucial role in the rescue of hundreds of lives on that fateful day in February 2009 – Black Saturday. As an Australian I am so proud of the 11 700 members of the CFA, 4 600 NSW Emergency Services personnel, 3 400 DSE members, over 1000 SES staff and volunteers and all other first responders who were willing to risk their lives for people in need. They saw horrific sights that can never be unseen and saved the lives of people who will never forget. It was a contribution we, as a nation, will always be grateful for.
