Chapter 8- The Expedition Begins

Having continued to work even harder over the past few days, which involved doing many of the listed jobs and even another go at Sentry Duty, both me and Sparky we remaining hopeful of being selected.

Eventually, one night at dinner, Chatot had an announcement to give the members before they ate. Many of the members protested in anger as they weren't allowed to eat yet, but after Chatot got everyone relaxed and calm he told us "I'm pleased to announce that we shall officially be revealing the selected expedition members tomorrow!" Everyone suddenly perked up at this news. "Finally?! They've been chosen?!" Loudred shouted. "Well, they haven't been chosen yet, but the Guildmaster has said that he will be writing down his final choices tonight after dinner," responded Chatot "The chosen members will be announced during tomorrow's morning briefing. Now, with that out of the way, let's get back to our dinner. On your marks...get set..."
"EAT!" everyone shouted as they snacked into their food.

As we were heading to bed, we both talked about how great it would be if we did end up being chosen. "Wouldn't it be great, Jack? If we are chosen tomorrow, imagine what kinds of treasure we could find! All the discoveries we could make!" Sparky chirped, once again his eyes would sparkle, however I still remembered what Chatot told us days ago. "But...I'm s-still worried that our f-failure the other day will still be t-taken into account..." I glumly said. "Well we still tried our hardest, so you never know what could happen" Sparky reassured me, making me feel better. We then decided we should go to bed so we would be up in time for the announcement. My final thought before heading to bed was hoping that if I wasn't going to get picked, then at least Sparky would get picked, knowing how much being chosen would mean to him.

"There it is, another Time Gear! This is the 2nd one I've found, only 3 more remain..."

back at the guild, the next morning

"HEY! WAKE UP! TODAY'S THE BIG ANNOUNCEMENT!" the very familiar voice of Loudred, our living alarm clock, shouted at us. After recovering for our dizziness we get from it each morning, we headed to the main area to join the others.

"Now then, I shall announce the members who have been selected. Guildmaster! The memo please!" Chatot instructed, Wigglytuff handed over a sheet of paper to Chatot "All the chosen members are written down on here. If you are chosen, then step forward. Now, without further ado, here are the selected members!"

Everyone was getting more and more excited in suspense, even I could feel my heart beating with excitement.

"Our first chosen member is...Loudred!" announced Chatot.
"YES! I DID IT!" Loudred triumphantly shouted, as he proudly stepped forward "But of course, it was OBVIOUS I'd be chosen!" this cockiness from him getting to some members. "Next up we have...Corphish!" Chatot added. "Hey, hey! I'm in!" Corphish chimed, also stepping forward. As more members were announced, the tension was growing even more within me and Sparky. The next three members to be announced were Bidoof, Sunflora and Chimecho. After that, Chatot revealed that was all the chosen members. Looking down in disappointment, I could also see the same disappointment in Sparky's face. "I guess...t-that's it then...we a-aren't going..." I quietly whimpered.

"Chaw-haw-haw! Looks like they're both out!" I could see Skuntank mouthing. Suddenly, Chatot started to say "Hold on a moment, it looked like there's more members!" Both me and Sparky suddenly perked up when hearing this. "The other members are Diglett, Croagunk and Dugtrio! Oh, and Jack and Sparky!" he announced. My heart might have just skipped a beat when I heard our names.

"Wait, what?! Guildmaster! This list...has every guild member!" Chatot suddenly shouted in shock. "That's right!" Wigglytuff simply responded.
"B-but w-w-why?! What was the point of having a selection process?!" Chatot stammered, completely dumbfounded.
"He's right," Skuntank added in "Why should everyone get to go?"
"So that it would be more fun, of course!" Wigglytuff gleefully chimed, this clearly becoming irritating for Skuntank.

"W-well then...I guess that settles it. Ok everyone, go and get yourselves prepared for the expedition! Once you are ready, return here!" instructed Chatot, as everyone cheered and went to get themselves ready. "We really did it, Jack! We got chosen!" Sparky chirped in excitement "Quickly! Let's go to Treasure Town to properly prepared!" He grabbed me by the paw and we both headed into town.

Going around Treasure Town, all the Pokémon were congratulating us for being chosen and wishing us the best of luck. We went to Kecleon Market to buy some Oran Berries and Reviver Seeds, then placed any unneeded items in the Kangaskhan Storage, before putting our remaining PokéCash in Duskull Bank so we wouldn't lose it. With that, we were at last ready for the expedition, so we then returned to the guild.

Chatot gave us a full explanation of how the expedition would go. It turns out that we would be making our way to a place known as "Fogbound Lake", a lake that is found to the far east. We were also shown the route we'd need to take in order to reach the base camp, being at "Foggy Forest".

After this, we were assigned into multiple groups, with me and Sparky being put in a group of three with Bidoof.

Now with the groups all assigned, we all left the guild to officially start our expedition of Fogbound Lake.

As our group got to the cliff side of the first of two mountains we had to traverse, we took a moment to look at the view of the ocean. "Wow! The waves are really coming in!" Sparky exclaimed, looking down the side as multiple waves crashed into the rocky cliff. "Guess the expedition truly begins here, by golly!" chirped Bidoof.

Sparky took out our Wonder Map from the bag and examined it. "So from the looks of things, we need to head up this mountain and then head down this other mountain next to it." I watched Sparky as he said this, noticing that he'd seemed to become a bit more of a leader. Maybe he was beginning to become more confident as time goes on.

Sparky headed towards the cave entrance and yelped "What? There's two entrances here! How do we know which one to go through?" I looked as well and noticed there was a sign that said "Craggy Coast (<-) Side Path (->)".
"Which way do you think we should go, Jack?" Sparky asked me. After thinking for a while I replied with "M-maybe Craggy Coast."
"Craggy Coast, then. Off we go!" Sparky chimed as we headed through the left path.

After 9 floors full of fighting against Water Type Pokémon, that Sparky was able to take out easily, we reached the top of the mountain. By this point, the sun had already began to set. "It's g-getting...huff huff...a bit l-late..." I panted, feeling tired from going through Craggy Coast. "Yeah, perhaps it would be best if we rested here for the night" Sparky suggested.
"Agreed, yup yup!" Bidoof chimed in, as we got some food out to eat for our dinner and got ready for bed.

The next morning, the three of us woke up bright and early, for once I was glad I didn't have Loudred shouting at us this morning. "Alright, everyone! Let's get moving and get to base camp!" Sparky instructed as we approached the nearby cavern, before I noticed yet another side that said "Rock Path (<-) Mt. Horn (->)".
"Let's try g-going through Mt. Horn" I suggested, the others in agreement as we went into the right path.

After a much larger trek of 14 floors, we got to the mountain base after around 3 hours and finally arrived at base camp. By the time we were there, everybody else was already there. The camp was surrounded by trees that seemed to go on forever, a foggy mist filled the air. Seeing all of this, a strange sensation suddenly came over me. "What is this feeling? Do I...wait...I...I know this place!" I suddenly thought to myself. Was I mistaken or had I truly been here before?

"Ah, you're finally here!" I heard the voice of Chatot chime in, as he approached us "Quickly go and set up your equipment! We shall be going over our strategy briefing soon!" he instructed us. "Right away!" Sparky responded and we began setting up our equipment. Throughout all of this, the feeling I got from first arriving here still lingered. Why did I believe I'd been here before? Had a memory of my past finally surfaced through? Maybe this expedition could be my best opportunity to find that out.
