He was blonde and rather tall, his barman outfit even more outstanding than Shinra's. He looked up at you with questioning expression on his face, and only then did you realise that all you had on yourself was an underwear. You widened your eyes as a mad blush of embarrassment flew onto your cheeks and you quickly ran back to your room without a word of explanation.
The guys remained silent for a while. Shinra barely resisted bursting into laughter when he saw his friend's confused and slightly blushing face. It was the first time he saw him this embarrassed.
"Oi," he suddenly heard the blond guy's dead serious voice, "I don't want to be nosy but what about Celty?"
Shinra quickly shook his head.
"No!," he exclaimed. "It's not like that. Honestly, I feel kind of hurt for being accused of cheating on Celty," he pouted, making an overly dramatic pose.
"Then who is she?," the guy raised his eyebrow, pointing at the door behind which you had disappeared.
"Oh, she...," Shinra scratched his cheek, visibly trying to find some good word for what was connecting you with him. "She's my sister," he finally explained, though his voice wasn't as confident as it would normally be.
The blond guy probably needed some time to process the newly acquired information, since he didn't reply immediately. Only after a while, he coughed and adjusted his glasses.
"Since when did you have a sister?," he finally asked.
"Since I was six?," Shinra replied. He moved his eyes on his friend, and, seeing his confused expression, he added:
"Oh, but she's not my real sister. I mean, she was adopted".
The blond guy leaned back on the sofa he was sitting on.
"How come I didn't know about her existence?," he kept inquiring, some kind of surrender filling his voice.
"She spent her middle and high school in Kyoto's medical school. Even I wasn't seeing her much back then," Shinra shrugged.
"So she's a doctor, huh?," the blond guy asked.
"She used to be an underground doctor as a teenager, but after graduating she moved to the U.S. university to study medicine and legally become a doctor," Shinra's voice suddenly became grimmer. "But since she's back out of sudden, I guess something was wrong and she resigned".
"Why?," his friend didn't understand.
"I'd like to know," Shinra replied.
Quite a bit of time had to pass for you to finally summon enough courage to get out of the room and show up in the living room, this time properly dressed.
Shinra's guest was still there when you walked in. He seemed to be less flustered by seeing you half naked than you were by being seen like that, which made you happy and weirdly offended at the same time. You, standing in the entrance to the living room, and the stranger, sitting on the counch next to Shinra, were staring at each other in silence, waiting for the host to go and introduce you to each other. But Shinra was visibly having fun from watching you as you were trying to hide your mortification and not to move your eyes away from the stranger, so he remained silent to tease you a little bit more. He knew you well enough to notice when you were feeling uneasy or shy, so observing you attempting to play cool was even more entertaining for him. But when you finally sent a desperate look towards him, he showed his mercy.
"Okay," he said and cleared his throat. "[Name], this is my good high school friend, Shizuo Heiwajima. Shizuo, this is my childhood friend, [Name]," he announced formally and pointed at the seat in front of him. "You can sit with us," he invited you friendly.
You bowed lightly to the stranger and sat with them obediently.
"Shizuo came here to have the wound on his chest dressed," he explained. "He often gets into fights, you see".
"Why?," you asked, but this time the question was directed at Shizuo. "Are you a delinquent?," you were straightforward, probably because you wouldn't be surprised if Shinra actually had this type of friends. He was an underground doctor, after all.
"Nope, just a bodyguard in a debt collectors agency," the blond guy replied.
"Is it really this dangerous?," you were quite surprised.
"He just tends to go overboard," Shinra snickered. "He's the strongest man in Ikebukuro, if not in the whole Tokyo".
You moved your eyes back on Shizuo and raised an eyebrow in disbelief. He really looked strong, but was it possible for him to be called 'the strongest'? You doubted, but you remained silent.
Suddenly, you remembered something.
"Shinra, about this Iza-," you wanted to continue but the doctor quickly cut you off.
"Oh, right! You have an interview today!," his voice was strangely panicky and you noticed that he was peeking at Shizuo nervously while talking. He stood up and pulled you after him to your room. "I think you have to mentally prepare yourself," he exclaimed and closed the door before you could even say anything.
What was the big deal?
