-Prologue-
Are You Happy Eve?
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Scientists gathered around the window driven by the curiosity and wonder of the news. Each one wiggling and pushing to find an open view of subject 67341 who sat comfortably in their room with the dopiest smile. The girl had short ash brown hair cut as to not be of any hassle during experiments. Her almond eyes were a dark almost black brown and her freckled skin was pale in color from lack of sun exposure. She looked no older than 15. The room she sat in, white walls and bare furniture contrasted greatly to her smile that seemed kind yet unsettling in this atmosphere.
One of the scientists in the front adjusted his bangs as to not block his crystal pale blue eyes. His hair always fell into his eyes like strings of pale-yellow sunshine. He scanned the room behind the glass for the hundredth time that evening waiting for disaster. Subject 67341 was his last and only survivor. The other 6... he chose to forget about them. It's less painful that way. He was grateful for the syrup that was bitter and burned but let you forget the things that make you guilty. He was always grateful without knowing it. It was so easy to just drink his dose and forget the lifeless eyes that haunt his subconsciousness. Yet staring at the smile beyond the glass did nothing but unsettle him.
It wasn't even 24 hours ago that her pale face stared at the glass as if she could see through it. Her brown eyes nearly black, piercing into him. There was so much happening in that gaze, but what unsettled him the most was that she wasn't looking at him through the glass, what she saw was a mirror. She was directing that devastating gaze at herself. That sight haunts the scientist as he looks at a completely different person. The smile, warm inviting so unlike what he has seen on her before. She seemed so warm staring at the glass but he can't help but feel that the darkness is still inside her.
The scientist trapped in his thoughts was shaken by a loud laugh that brought him back to reality. A familiar pair of light hazel eyes appeared in front of his face as his eyes began to focus. "Hell-ooooo! Earth to Adam!" called a light and enthusiastic voice. The scientist, Adam blinked the last of his thoughts away and looked back at the women. Her brown curls were in a frenzy and the excitement in her eyes was evident. "Why are you over here looking like World War V is about to happen? Aren't you excited! You did it! You finally did it!" the spunky scientist grabbed Adam's shoulders shaking him violently with excitement. Adam collecting his thoughts began to grumble, "I still feel like it's not perfect G, it hasn't even passed the one-week trial period. At any moment she could react horribly or even die". The women called G, short for Georgina pinched Adam's nose like you would to a child and shook his head, "You are the first person to even get this far. This is a breakthrough! No matter what, you are going to be famous! The youngest scientist at age 18 to have created a possible cure for human suffering!". She laughed a deep laugh throwing her head back. Adam smiled a small smile but still, he had a feeling that this wasn't what he wanted when he applied for this job.
The girl beyond the glass stood up suddenly causing the scientists watching to jump back. G gasped so deeply from the shock she began choking on air, "What the hell was that!". Adam observed the other scientists ignoring the sputtering G by his side. They all looked like children seeing stars for the first time. Entranced with the possibilities. Staring at something you cannot touch but still want to explore and understand. They dug their gazes into her every action. She was an anomaly. Adam felt his stomach twist at the lack of humanity she seemed to receive from those eyes. She wasn't a human to them, she was a solution. They looked at the girl in the glass room like she was the key to everything they wanted and more.
