Memories

He's floating. It's the only thing he can register from the pitch darkness he's enveloped in. He doesn't remember much, only remembers Levi's horrified look and his matching one as he felt a piercing pain in his abdomen. He wonders what happened after, but he feels too comfortable like if he'd been dipped into a warm pool and was submerged and blanketed. All he knows is his limbs hurt and he's so exhausted and his limbs ache, he want to close his eyes. And he could, it feels like something so easy and soon he feels his eyelashes fluttering against his cheeks. He's so exhausted.

"Eren", he hears a gentle voice whisper and he groans because all he wants is to just sleep and someone isn't letting him. He feels soft hands at his face, gentle, yet cold and suddenly every feeling of tiredness and pain leave his body. He opens his eyes only to be blinded by a pure white light and suddenly everything is engulfed in white and he's standing, a breeze being felt through his hair.

He blinks to adjust his vision and he is completely in awe at the sight of the garden, better yet a meadow would be a better descriptor, brimming with all types of flowers in full bloom. He looked down at himself seeing still in a wedding dress, no wound.

"Eren." He was startled by the voice and he whipped around and was paralyzed to see the person in front of him. He would never forget those eyes. Those turquoise eyes he'd fear for so many years that he'd end up forgetting.

"M-Mom..." he muttered in disbelief and the tears came before he was able to choke out a few sobs and he ran without hesitation to hug him tightly. "M-Mom...momma", he chanted over and over, body shaking with sobs as he sunk his face into his mother's neck. He felt soft rubbing at his back from his cold hands, but not even the coldest ice could take the warmth it filled Eren's heart. After yearning so long to feel his mother's embrace and his love.

"Shhh, my baby. I need you to listen, dear. There's only so much time I can be here", he muttered softly into Eren's hair. Eren panicked, eyes wide as he looked at his mother with concern. Now he remembered, his mother wasn't amongst the living anymore. His mother smiled sadly, brushing away his tears as the younger diverted his gaze elsewhere. "I need you to be strong. It's still not your time, baby".

"Can't I just stay...Can't I be with you and father? I can't love without you. It'll be too painful" he sputtered before he could stop himself and he was desperate that much he could hear. His mother sighed and it was so pain filled and almost regretful as he shook his head. Eren had known the answer even before because he knew what his previous words had entailed.

"No, you must go back. It's not your time...but before anything let me look at you", he mumbled softly as he stepped back to take Eren's appearance. Tears were soon at his eyes, hand at his mouth. "You look stunning, the most beautiful bride. I'm so glad I got to see you like this. Your father and I had dreamt of this moment. We knew you two were meant to be".

At that Eren looked at him incredulous of his words. Him and Levi? Meant to be? Did he even know about him?

"Don't look at me like that. You just need to remember. It's been long enough and you need to remember Eren. You'll be in good hands. I know it", his mother finally responded and he leaned forward to kiss soflty at his forehead before a rush of memories flowed into his head. Eren stepped back a moment to process all these images and all these people coming back to him and the very familiar face that stuck out to him. He fell to his knees, as the realization hit him.
