chelsey orman was just like you, an unknowing teenager.

she grew up in an extremely run down village called, "jubile"

the villagers there lived off two dollars a day, and the only job available for the villagers there, was selling cardboard boxes.

as there weren't much natural resources provided on that land, the villagers had no choice but to scavenge, hunt and kill everyday for their own survival.

some would even battle each other for food and resources.

and when i say battle, i mean battle to the death.

the kids there were trained from young how to kill and how to fight.

all except chelsey orman.

"mum dad! it's time to work!"

chelsey orman and her family of four, consisting of her mom, dad and younger sister, depended wholely on cardboards to survive.

they refused to participate in any battles or fights, because they strongly believed that killing was selfish and ruthless and would take anything to not kill.

so the ormans lived at the suburb areas of the village, away from the violent crowd, where no one could come harm them.

that was, until the day of the "selection" came, forcing them out of their shadows.

the "selection" was a trial held once every two years, where people from the guard islands would come to rural areas to find their next batch of warriors.

it was compulsory for every villager aged 10 at that time to attend the "selection" trials.

those who passed all the trials, and succeeded, would be split in half and trained at their respective islands for the rest of their lives.

each trial's difficulty increases as you go on, and at every stage, you are expected to fight til your very last breath.

the "selection" trial has four stages.

the first stage being a test for courage. the children were thrown into a stimulation, each separated from the other.

the stimulation consisted of a pitch dark, never- ending jungle, with mist that could bring your greatest fears to life.

i mean— what could show courage more than facing your own fears?

the second stage was temptation.

the trial goes just as its name suggests— it tempts you and if you fall for temptation, you die.

no one knew how or what the children were tempted by, but everyone knew that this stage could not ever be prepared for.

the third stage was attachment.

everyone is attached to either someone and something and won't ever let go, isn't it?

this stage tests the ability of the children on their ability to sacrifice everything they love— for their lives.

the fourth and final stage would be the test of pain.

the children would be beaten up to the point it would be unbearable for most soldiers and the first few to call out would be eliminated straight away.

those who surpassed all four stages— would officially become a warrior of the twin islands.

and chelsey orman was beyond terrified of what might become of her after the trials.
