The nightmare known as the Raccoon City incident is now over. Claire and I escaped with not only our lives, but with a little girl named Sherry Birkin as well. I just hoped that Raccoon was the only place that was infected, and that the viruses were contained.

Claire and I only saw one person who was alive after we escaped. The bastard almost ran me over with his eighteen wheeler, and had the audacity to flip me off. Some people, man...

It seemed to be a long journey, as the sun was beginning to rise. What a night...zombies, Umbrella, and even that agent, Ada. I shouldn't have trusted her, but she's gone now. And there's no going back.

"So," the girl began, "are you guys like...boyfriend and girlfriend?"

"We, uh, just met last night." I say back, chuckling a little as I felt my cheeks slightly heat up. Man, did that question come out of nowhere.

"Yeah," Claire said breathlessly, her cheeks slightly pink as well, "that would've been one helluva date, though." She grinned at me.

I smirked back, agreeing with her.

"Yeah, it would've." I said, sounding as if my mind was miles away. I then stretch my arm out, reaching for Sherry's hand. "C'mon, let's get outta here."

The small girl held onto my hand, as Claire held onto her opposite hand.
Walking along the side of the road, Sherry swayed our arms back and forth as she happily skipped between us.

"Hey!" She said, her wide blue eyes darting from me to Claire. "You guys can adopt me!" Sherry gushed.

"Adopt you?" Claire chuckled.

I smiled, a rush of happiness run through me. Sherry showed a lot of innocence still, even after that horrible night. I was glad she could still be a kid even after that.

"Yeah!" She smiled widely. "And we can get a puppy! And even a parrot!"

"A parrot?" I asked, a smile forming on my face.

"Yeah, my parents wouldn't let me get an animal." Sherry told us. "They said they're very messy."

"They are." Claire said, a smile on her face as well.

Sherry's eyebrows scrunched together, as her little hands squeezed mine and Claire's hands.

"What is going to happen? Because I don't want to leave you both!" She said with worry touching her fragile voice.

I look down to her, a soft expression on my bruised and dirty face. I then smile, a sign or reassurance to her.

"I'll take care of you. And so can Claire." I said with optimism. I just hope that's what will happen. "Right, Claire?" I say, looking over at the college student. She too had a look of optimism.

"Of course," she nodded, "I'm not going anywhere."

I was relieved when she said that. I feel like Sherry will need us both in her life. She lost her parents, and we'll just have to substitute the loss in her life. The happiness didn't last too much longer, as we all heard a sound in the distance, like something flying through the air. I turned my head around as I looked back to where Raccoon was, miles back.

But of course, the buildings in the distance was the last image I saw of the infected metropolis. The city seemed to go up in flames, the colour of the city becoming a blinding white, before it matched the morning sky.

"Jesus Christ!" Claire shouted, as she held onto Sherry. "What happened!?"

I couldn't answer for sure, but my best guess was a missile or bomb. Perhaps the government was containing the infection. Or Umbrella was destroying the evidence. Either way Raccoon City was no longer a city anymore. All it was, was a crater in the earth.

"It's gone," I said with disbelief, "it's been destroyed."

"Claire, Leon, what will happen to us? I'm scared," Sherry whimpered into Claire's shirt, as she clung onto the young woman.

"Nothing will happen to us. Whatever happens now won't effect us three." I said, my eyes watching the orange flames reach the sky in the distance. "I'll make sure of that."

"Let's get out of here. I'm sure we're safe from that blast, but we don't want to stick around for any unwanted attention." Claire said, as her arms wrapped around Sherry.

"Yeah, you're right." I nodded. "But one day, we'll take Umbrella down for good."

"You're damn right we will!" The brunette said enthusiastically. I smiled at her, before we continued our journey.

We didn't know where we were going, or where would be safe. All I hope was that the three of us would make it. That we'll live through anything this world would throw at us.
