The incoming short story deals with growing up, hints of depression, and suicide. If any of this is a trigger for you PLEASE DO NOT READ IT.  Also, I am not feeling these feelings, I am not suicidal, I just thought of a story today and I decided to write it.

When Kitty was nine, she loved art.

She loved to dance and sing,

climb trees and read books,

and she loved imagining

a world of happiness.

"Never grow up."

Adults would tell her.

But she wanted to.

She wanted to get older;

she wanted to drive cars,

and pay taxes,

and fall in love,

and raise a family,

and have a job.

She wanted to grow up.

When Kitty was thirteen, she loved art.

She loved to talk and shop,

read and climb trees,

and she loved to write

about a world of happiness.

"Never grow up."

Highschoolers would tell her.

But she wanted to.

She wanted to get older;

she wanted to go to college,

and drink wine,

and get married,

and change the world,

and travel Europe.

She wanted to grow up.

When Kitty was seventeen, she loved art.

She loved to read and write,

watch netflix and eat chocolate,

and she loved to dream

of a world of happiness.

"Time to grow up."

People told her.

But she wasn't ready.

She didn't want to get older;

she didn't want to be alone,

and pay taxes,

and work a job,

and leave her parents,

and face the world.

She wasn't ready.

When Kitty was eighteen, she hated art.

She hated to dance and sing,

climb trees and read books,

and she longed to live

in a world of happiness.

"Time to grow up."

Everyone told her.

But she didn't want to.

She hated the new world;

she hated the wars,

and the hatred,

and the destruction,

and the death of the Earth,

and the pressure of society.

She didn't want to grow up.

When Kitty was eighteen, she found a way out.

She found a gun,

she found bullets,

and she thought

of a world of happiness.

"She didn't get to grow up."

Some people said.

Well, she didn't want to.

She pulled the trigger;

she ended her life,

and caused pain for her family,

and blew her brains out,

and chose a permanent solution to a temporary problem,

and left the world of happiness.

She never grew up.

And that's a tragedy.
