Desperate Eyes Come For Desperate Measures

Lucy's POV

Natsu was surely confused.

"Natsu... Lucy was given a power from her aunt. It's been hidden away until recently, and it's consuming her body. We need your help in order for her to get control."

I looked at him with desperate eyes.

I had to face the facts.

I was dying.

"W-Why me?! There's plenty more capable!"

"We need a dragon slayer." Master responds calmly.

"We have Gajeel, Laxus, and even Wendy! Surely one of them could help out!"

Master only shakes his head.

"Lucy chose you. She trusts you with this, and so do I."

Natsu looks to me, his panicked eyes staring right into my desperate ones.

"D-do you not want to?" I ask.

"That's not it! It's just..."

He pauses.

"I'm afraid of your life being in my hands."

"I'm sure you'll do a fine job." Master Makarov speaks up.

A silence fills the room as both I and master eagerly wait for Natsu's response.

"Okay, I'll do it." The Fire Dragon Slayer finally claims.

I embrace Natsu in a tight hug.

Despite his worries, Natsu was going to help me.

Whether or not he had doubt in himself made no difference to me.

I believed in Natsu not only because he was my only hope, but because he had great control over his power, and because we were teammates.

I let go, freeing him of my grip.

"Why exactly do you need a dragon slayer specifically?"

I redirect my eyes down to his feet.

"B-Because... I'm the Celestial Dragon Slayer."

I notice him adjust his feet.

"Really?" He asks.

I can't even tell what he's thinking.

I nod, and the office goes silent once more.

"Awesome!" He shouts suddenly.

I look up, surprised.

He looks at me with a smile, putting his hands on my shoulders.

"I'm going to train you so well, and I'll protect you too! You won't die! I'll make sure of it!"

He was enthusiastic all of a sudden.

Master smiles.

"You two get to working things out then."

We exit the office, weirdly happy for what we'd just been conversing.

Erza walks up to us.

"Okay you two, we have a job to do."

"Hm? What's the job?" I ask.

Erza holds up a flyer for a lost cat.

"Apparently they've been searching for a while now, and they figured wizards would know where to look."

I take the flyer.

"We're a team... we got this."

Natsu smiles.

"Let's go find that cat!"
