Nobody knew.
Nobody saw it coming.
That's what everyone always says.
But I knew.
Those closest, knew.
They simply denied it until the very end, when all had been lost.
I sat in anguish as the rest of the crowd whispered their condolences. Tears threatened to spill down my face as friends and family poured up to the podium to talk about their memories.
The aroma of flowers filled my nostrils and made me want to vomit.
She never cared for flowers, she only cared about people and what they meant to her.
"I used to talk to her every day that we had worked together. She was always so full of joy and made work more tolerable. who would've thought..."
A girl with porcelain smooth skin and overly rosy cheeks stood on the podium and choked.
I clenched my fists.
She failed to mention how she had dismissed all the signs. The late days, the days of silence, the days where she'd go in to work, eyes rimmed with red. Days where she refused to eat, and smiled and said everything was okay.
"Kier."
All heads turned towards me then, in that small uncomfortable room full of unforgiving faces.
All secretly blaming the one person who should've been there.
The deafening silence of the room made my ears ring as it pounded down all around me.
I stood, knees threatening to buckle.
And quaking, walked out of the funeral home.
