Chapter Seven
Link’s POV
My chest hurt from the pressure that hit it only moments ago. I watched as the monster climbing down the hill ran from going right for me, to running to the side chasing after more Gorons.
“Don't get yourself into so much trouble mister.” Said a voice from behind me. I opened my eyes still slightly watering from the pain in my chest from practically getting hit by a rock.
“Thanks for saving me back there.” I remembered now, there was a Goron that had pushed me out of the way of the monster and got me behind a very large bundle of rocks.
“Just don't make a habit of it okay.” He had a bit of an attitude about it but I didn’t think anything of it.
“So what’s going on around here?” I asked. I looked around, there was snow everywhere. This wasn’t the normal type of weather for the Goron Mountain… and it was swelteringly hot just moments ago too…
“Bah, nothing we can’t handle. Been like this for a while, was about a year after that when that big ugly monster showed up. All it does is destroy and kill.”
“And you can handle that?”
“Well… some of us… only the strong have survived and even then we don't have many…”
“But you are Goron, you can handle a lot.”
“You would think so, being a fellow Goron,” I tilted my head to the side confused, which in turn gave my fellow Goron a confused look. “Anyways, you would think so, but we lost a great leader not too long ago… such a tragic loss.” He looked down and looked like he was wiping away a tear. “But do not dwell on my sorrow, I can handle a lot. But as soon as we lost our leader to the cold hand of death we lost a child… we know he is still alive but out chef… he loses hope.”
“is that why everyone has been out in this snow even with the monster about?”
“Correct… we would risk so much for this child. He is the new leader of the Gorons… we need him… our line of leaders is getting smaller and smaller as we live on…”
“I want to help. In any way.”
“Really? You would do that for a stranger?”
“You saved my life; I am in debt to you.”
The Goron looked at me with a thoughtful look. “You know, I just realized I don't recognize you at all, but you look so familiar… you ever come around these areas before?”
“I have, but it has been a long time…”
“Hm, well I am glad that you are here to help.” He slammed his hand on my back, which if I was a normal human being it would have knocked me down. But with this body I was able to handle a lot more. I smiled at my new friend.
“So where do we start?” I asked, but when I looked at my new friend he had a serious look on his face, looking off far away. “What is it?”
“Shh…” he held a finger to his lips. There was a distant thumping sound.
“What’s going on?”
“We need to hide…” he waved his hand to me to follow him. I walked closely behind him and listened to the background. The thundering sound came from all directions. I looked to the left, then to the right, then behind me…
We found a place not too far from where we had stood, and hid behind a wall of a small log cabin that looked like just a small snow mountain as it had snowed so much, there wasn’t much left to tell if it was even a home anymore.
