Chapter 4: For You

Chapter 4: For You.

POV Natsu

"Lucy, I swear whoever did this will pay with his life."

At the edge of her bed , Natsu looks down at Lucy's beautiful face stained with tears. Who would've known that just yesterday he met her.

Yet, Natsu already knew that he needed her in his life.

Natsu kept thinking, why wouldn't Lucy tell him that she was being targeted.

"If only I was there....to keep you safe." He muttered.

He slowly starts to nod off but this time making sure Lucy is by him.

He then laid his head by Lucy's and fell asleep.

POV Lucy

Lucy wakes up to the light coming in through her window.

And snoring so loud she couldn't believe it.

"What snoring...someone else is here...?"

Still not have adjusted her eye sight, she sees the outline of a male.

'No...don't tell me HE slept here. NOT HIM" she backs up and try's to get ahold of her keys. Patting down where they should be Lucy realizes they weren't there.

' OH NO! Don't tell me I didn't bring them back with me!'

She looks up and sees that the male was waking up. With nothing else to do she yelled at the top of her lungs.

" LUCY! What? Are you ok?"

'I know this voice..'

" Na-Natsu?" Lucy voice quivers.

Before she could say anything else, Natsu ran to her and put his arms around her.

Without thinking about it, Lucy automatically let herself fall into his arms. With the sound of his steady breath and the sound of their beating hearts.

"I'm sorry. I wasn't there to protect you...if only I ..."

Lucy notices Natsu knuckles opening and closing.

" Natsu...I didn't want you to get involved. I wouldn't want you to get hurt over someone you barely met. I..." Lucy breathes in then out, trying not to cry, " was so scared. I-I'm sorry."

Before Lucy realized it she was crying in his arms.

'No, Lucy. Let Natsu be. Don't get him involve. Don't hurt someone else again.'

"Natsu...I'm sorry. Please do not get involved. I don't want you to get hurt"

"Lucy, if someone I care about is in trouble I will be there for them. Doesn't matter what time of day or how far away I am. I will be there. Lucy, I will be there for you." He smiles big.

Pointing at himself he says "Count on me!"

Lucy was surprised by the way he answer. No one has ever said something like that too her so sincerely. She could tell that he was being honest.

"Natsu, I never knew someone like you who barely met me would say something like that to me. Especially...never mind."

" Lucy, when I first bumped into you it felt like a dream has come alive. A dream I never knew I had or even wanted. I won't get you hurt. I will protect you at all costs."

Lucy smiles up at him with tears in her eyes. After all she has been through, she never imagined someone would care for her.

Just for a little longer...just for a second more she believed someone actually did care for her.

But as someone she cared about she didn't want him to get involved. Lucy made a tough decision. She decided to tell Natsu to leave her be.

' BE STRONG! Remember what happened...when you let someone else involved. Protect him. Keep Natsu safe.'

Lucy pulls away from Natsu's embrace. As much as she loved feeling secure and cared for, she needed him to be safe.

She notices Natsu looking at her curiously when she pulled away.

Looking at her palms and then up to Natsu's concerned eyes she whispered

" Please leave. I-I'm sorry. Don't get involved in my life. You barely know me and yet you are here."

"Lucy? Why are you saying this all of a sudden?"

Natsu's eyes looked sad.

" I can protect you. I can't leave you, Lucy. Not after knowing you are being targeted."

Lucy gets away from him and walks to her door. While opening it she told natsu,

" Stop.Please. Don't make it harder than it's supposed to be. Just LEAVE!"

With tears coming down her face she points to the door.

"Luce, please. When I first met you, it felt as if I known you forev..."

" Stop! STOP ACTING AS IF YOU KNOW ME! We BARELY MET! Just leave...,"

Lucy looks up at Natsu and automatically regretted saying all those things.

The amount of hurt in his dark brown eyes made her want to run to him and hold him.

And never let him go.

Lucy sees Natsu get up and walk torwards her.

" Please...," she whispers, " it's hard for me too. Don't make me hurt someone else again."

"Luce..."

Lucy keeps looking down at the ground. Not daring to look up. Because she knew of she did that it would have been for nothing. She would have ran to his arms and cried.

She doesn't know how long she just stood there. When she looked up Natsu was gone.

" I'm sorry, Natsu. It was to keep you safe."

Turning around after shutting the door it's when she notices Natsu has left his scarf.

Kneeling down to pick it up, she cries. Cries so much that it leaves a stain in the scarf.

' I need to stop...crying won't make anything better....or keep anyone safe."

Lucy wipes her tears away.

Getting her phone she's texts Him. As much as she hates Him, Lucy knew that the problem would need fixing it would need to start with her assaulter.

''Meet me at café."

That's all she needed to write. HE knew which one.

Lucy rinses her face and grabs her bag. Making sure her whip is in her bag.

" This is it. This has to be where it all ends. HE will not hurt me any longer. "

She walks out the door with no hesitation and doesn't turn back.
