Today is the day, my first day at a High School that accepts Humans, Monsters, and Halfmen. Halfmen are people who are only half human. Anyone who is 45% human or less is called either a falsehyde or a monster, really it mostly depends on the person who chooses to say it. At fist glance I look mostly normal. Sure my skin is super pale and my eyes are a really pale blue too but hey, everyone's different right? I can even get away with talking for a bit before people start noticing my half-inch long fangs and the fact that every other tooth in my mouth is a three quarter-inch long canine... yaaay. And surprise surprise, I have forty-six of them.
At least My Y-Sign is a Yin and Yang. Oh, you don't know about that either do you? Well okay. A Y-Sign is something you get at birth. It can be on your neck, back, arm, hand, anywhere really. Mine is on my right Hand. If you're a Yin and Yang like me, then you're a mostly balanced creature who could go either way. If you're a double Yang, you're more likely to be good, while double Yins are more likely to be evil and are harder to trust. Right, anyways, today was my first day, and even though I don't show it, I'm a nervous wreck. Anything can go wrong and I don't really get a say in things. How monsters and Halfmen are treated is kind of like how Black people were treated after they were freed from slavery. Im wearing a black sweater with white and silver spiderweb patterns on it, a black t-shirt, black tights with the silver bats and gold spiders, and black gym shoes.
I'm waiting at the bus stop with three other people. A red headed girl with blue eyes that I'm sure is a human, a brown haired boy with green eyes that is definitely a human, and a short girl with black hair and amber eyes. Great, just my luck, I'm the only monster at this bus stop. Yay me. I'm betting that the bus driver is human too, and maybe like 90% of the bus. Why is being me so hard? No no, they don't know you're a Halfman yet....but they will. The bus driver pulls in and we all board. I start down the isle when some kid looks at me with a suspicious look. I awkwardly smile forgetting that I have forty-six highly vampire like teeth. He reels back and whispers something to the girl next to him who gets on her phone and starts typing. I stop smiling and look at the floor as I walk. Someone throws a paper ball at me, and as I look up another kid sticks he leg out and trips me.
I fall but I use my powers to stop my fall, unfortunately I haven't learned how to fly without changing into a bat so now the whole bus knows I'm part vampire. I catch my bag, change back, and sling it over my shoulder. Now almost everyone is glaring at me, mocking me, throwing things at me, laughing at me, or trying to trip me. I find an empty seat and sink into it. The girl with red hair I saw earlier plunked herself down next to me. Was she here to insult me as well?
"Hi, I'm Petunia. Petunia Garvindale." she said extending a hand.
"Gwendolen." I mumbled back, scooting away from her and pulling my hands in close.
"What'd you say?" she asked politely.
"Gwendolen... Gwendolen AidesVale." I said so she could hear me.
"Can I call you Gwen, or Gwenny?"She asked. I nodded and she smiled.
"Can you keep a secret?"Petunia asked very seriously.
"Yeah," I answered, now intrigued on what she had to say to a stranger. She leaned in close and whispered in my ear.
"Don't tell anyone, but I'm a Halfman." She said, backing up a little. She looked worried
"Impossible. You look just like a Human." I whispered. She giggle then closed her eyes tight and tensed her body. In less than half a millisecond she was see through, not much but enough to prove she wasn't human.
"Woah." I gasped in awe. I looked at her and she nodded, so I stuck my hand through her stomach and it went though! I pulled my hand back, examined is quickly, the smiled a big smile at her.
"I know for a fact you aren't just half vampire. Otherwise you would have less and shorter teeth." she smiled.
"How did you know?" I asked surprised.
"I know things. And as a ghost, I feel it my job to know things." she giggled, pretending to be serious.
"Okay, since it's your job, I'll tell you." I replied as she pulled a small notebook and a pencil out of her bag.
"I'm 1/2 human, 1/4 vampire and 1/4 werewolf." I chirped looking out the window.
"WHAT?! No way! I never would have guessed that you're-" she blurted. I rushed to covered her mouth then made a hushing motion. She closed her eyes and tensed up again to solidify herself. I poked her stomach again and she started laugh crying saying "That tickles!". I looked at her and then facepalmed.
"Ooooh. Riiiight." she nodded, going back to a whisper. Some girl from the seat in front of us looked back skeptically. Petunia stood up and look at me, I know what she was about to do.
"A VAMPIRE!! FULL OR HALF?! I DON'T CARE, YOUR A...MONSter?!!" she hesitated, slowly growing quiet and sinking back down into her seat. I burst out laughing and then suddenly stop when people started looking at me. We finally arrived at school and I was actually surprised. 28% of the school was monsters and halfmen. We were walking the halls, the incredibly long halls, following the flow of students to what could be the auditorium if I heard correctly.
"What sign are you?" Petunia asked looking like a reporter with her pencil and pad.
"My Zodiac or my Y-sign?" I questioned.
"You know what, both." she responded.
"Zodiac sign is Scorpio-"
"Birthday?" she interrupted
"Huh?" I wondered.
"Before you continue, tell me your birthday, Ooh! And age!" She beamed poking my nose with her eraser. I gently moved it away from my face then grinned at her.
"November 1st, 15 years old." I chuckled. She scribbled it down and then looked back up at me.
"Hair color white....mmmhmm.... Eye color...," she looked up from her notebook, sized me up, then continued writing, "very pale blue.... got it.... Skin color iiiiiiiis....vampire white."
"My eyes aren't that pale are they."
"Mmhmmm. Hey what's your sexuality?"
"Let's just call it unknown."
"Uuunknown. List your likes please. Not too fast if you will."
"Bats, spiders, snakes, crocodiles, alligators, Orcas, Sharks, skeletons, 'scary' things, plushes, flying, and privacy."
".... priiiivacyyyy... ok, Favorites?"
I answered all her questions and then I got curious and wanted to know what all this was about.
"hey, what's all this for anyways?"
"Journal, well no. Actually more of aaaaa... info book." she said showing me the page she had been writing on. It was cool, all the stuff she'd learned about me were on there. Not to mention the awesome sketch of me she drew. It was so realistic. Petunia handed me the book then started humming. There were lots of pages like this all over the book, so many sketches, so many creatures she's met.
"This is nice." I said handing her back the book. She took it and hugged it close, slung her bag over, put it in, and slung her bag back over her shoulder.
