Chapter Eight: A Token
After the interviews were over, Lucy and Marvel climbed into one of the elevators that held Kathleen, Gloss, Marcel, Marvel's stylist and a few other tributes that had decided to pile in with them. Lucy noticed Katniss was one pf the tributes, she looked somewhat annoyed. Presumably because she'd just found out Peeta had an un-dying love for her...or was feeling frustrated at how claustrophobic it was in the elevator. But Lucy thought she'd go with the first option.
They arrived quickly at the first floor which was District 1's floor. Lucy and Marvel were thrilled to get off the dreaded elevator and onto their floor. Their team followed after them and the elevator doors closed so the elevator continued to go up, getting the tributes too their floors.
"Both of your interviews were fantastic!" Gloss beamed, congratulating the two on their success. This had to be the first thing Lucy had done right since she had arrived in the Capitol, apart from possibly the tribute parade. "I'd rank them better than the scum from District 12's...they have to go one better don't they? With the girl on fire and now the boy with the un-dying love for fire girl...they're pulling a star crossed lovers show!"
"I'll kill them both in the bloodbath tomorrow," Marvel hissed. "I hate the pair of them, I can't believe I was sharing the same airspace with them a minute a go! We all know what their plan is, they want a District 12 victor this year because the last time they had one was in the 50th Hunger Games...and now he's a drunk! They've only had two victors in 73 years of games!"
"Face it, they're failures to Panem. They're the most pathetic District...I think even District 13 would have been more use! They'd have lots of victors from 13...they were all for the nuclear weapons." Kathleen sighed.
"There's no point being horrible about them," Lucy said suddenly. "We can't just stand here and be nasty when there's nothing we can do. The only option available is for Marvel to release his anger tomorrow in the bloodbath. They always get killed then."
"I suppose, we'll ally up with Cato and Clove...and Rookie if she wants to join." Marvel said sourly.
"It's up to her as to what she does in the arena, if she wants to join the alliance she can. If not, that's her choice. But knowing Rookie she'll probably want to go solo."
"Can we discuss this at dinner? I'm starving," Gloss moaned.
"You're always hungry!" Lucy said.
"Got to be, it's The Hunger Games!"
The group laughed as they sat down and began devouring the food already laid out for them by the avox's. Lucy thought she better make the most of it as this would be her and Marvel's last Capitol dinner. Tomorrow she'd be eating dinner in the arena...hopefully.
Then suddenly she began to worry. Tomorrow. Tomorrow surely meant certain death. She might escape but then she'd be killed the next day. It was terrifying to think that Cato would now have the liberty to kill her, she couldn't question him because he's said he'd break every bone in her body...she didn't get a good training score so she had no right to question the way he acted.
Now her dinner didn't seem so appealing. She tried to eat but nauseous feeling in her stomach wouldn't go...she would definitely be killed, there was no doubt about it.
"Looking forward to tomorrow, are we?" Gloss asked as he finished devoruing the food on his plate and grabbed himself some dessert.
"I am!" Marvel laughed and speared a potato with his fork, probably imagining it was a tributes head...
Lucy kept quiet as she ate, being extra careful to remember her manners and keep in Kathleen's good books. She couldn't upset her again.
"What about you, Lucy?" Gloss said.
