I've still been heading in the direction of the town the girl is supposedly in. I haven't seen anymore living people so far. I haven't even seen many of the dead lately. It's almost completely deserted.

It gets lonely. You either get asshole humans, the dead, or nothing at all everyday. I don't sleep anymore. The quiet keeps me awake. I'm used to the growls and the constant shuffle of the dead's feet.

But now, here, there is nothing.

The deafening silence is almost too much to bare. Most people would enjoy the silence, even hope for just one night to be noiseless, but not me. It tells me that they're evolving, that they're growing more clever. That can't happen!

They're already stronger and faster than humans, and now they're mutating! I'm not sure if we will ever come out of this. CDCs have been going down all across the world. The sad thing is, they all went down looking in the wrong place.

I don't know why I even care. I fit in better in this world than in the other one. That sounds bad, but it's true.

~A few hours later~

This girl is so annoying. She keeps asking me what I'm writing, and why I'm writing. Her name is Tasha. I found her while I was looking for more supplies. She's clever, I'll give her that, and knows how to get herself out of things but she's not exactly a fighter. I'm only taking her with me because she claims to know Maggie.

I was walking through a mall, God knows I only ever went to those because of Mika. I need to stop thinking about her. Mika is gone and she's not coming back, but just because she's gone doesn't mean the memories of her are.

I was almost done looking for supplies when I heard shouts. I turned and slowly started walking toward them.

"Get off me, you bloody ape!" I heard a female's voice shout, followed by a menacing laugh.

"I thought you heard me, I said not until me and my boys are done with you. I'd of thought a pretty little lady like yourself d'be able to understand that." A scratchy male voice said back. That man needed to learn proper English.

I stepped out where they could all see me. Three men and one girl. I held my hands up when two of the men pointed their guns at me. "Oh don't mind me, I was just looking around. Feel free to... Um... Finish." I said the last word through clenched teeth.

"You can't leave me with them." The woman said. She was being held up against a wall.

"I can leave you with them." I said to her. I wasn't going to leave her with them. At least, I wasn't going to leave her with them alive.

"You ain't leavin' girl." The one that had been talking to the girl, before I intervened, said.

I looked at him in disgust. "Please stop talking. Everything that comes out of your mouth is actively incorrect and sounds utterly idiotic."

The girl started laughing at that. The man snarled at threw the girl to the ground. I cocked my head to the side. "Sorry for getting you throw to the ground, but it probably wasn't the wisest move to laugh at what I said. Even though it was worded brilliantly."

"Shut your mouth, and keep your hands up!" The man yelled at me.

"I am. I just have one question." I said calmly.

"Out with it then." He said.

"What is her name?" I asked.

"Hell if I know." He answered.

"You were about to rape a girl you didn't even know the name of?" I growled.

"I wasn't going to rape her." He said.

"Oh don't give me that bullshit. She wasn't coming willingly." The girl smiled thankfully at me.

"Shut up, and hand over all your weapons."

"No." I said.

"It's people like you that I have problems with." He growled at me.

"I'm sorry, what is your name?" I asked him.

"Tim. That's John and that's Walter." He said pointing at the other two men.

"And you?" I said looking down at the girl.

"Tasha. Tasha Hickers." She answered.

"Well Tasha you have now been properly introduced to your rapers. I'm Zarella, not that it matters, and I will be saving you." I pulled out my guns and shot John and Walter in the head. Tim tried to shoot me, so I flipped and got behind a column. I looked up and saw a big sign hanging above Tim.
I aimed my guns at both of the wires and shot them. The sign crashed down on top of him.

I walked out from behind the column slowly. I noticed that Tasha had also gotten behind a column. I looked at Tim and saw that he was still alive, only his waist down had been crushed. He was spitting out blood and making a gurgling sound. I aimed my gun at his head. His eyes were begging me to pull the trigger. And I did.

Tasha stepped out from behind the column. "Why did you shoot him? Why didn't you just leave him to die?" She asked me.

"I still like to believe that I'm not entirely heartless." I answered.

Tasha nodded. "Thanks for, you know, helping me."

"I would have helped anyone in that situation." I half smiled at her.

She smiled back and looked down. "I suppose I'm not that special then."

"Don't say that. Everyone has something special about them."

She looked up at me. "Really? Do you really believe that? Because if you do, then why did you kill them?" She questioned, motioning to the dead bodies.

"They made their choice. You have to realize that there comes a time when you can't help some people." I said as I started to turn around.

"Wait! Can I come with you?"

"I travel alone." I stated as I kept walking.

"But... is this yours?" She asked. I turned around and saw her holding a picture. The picture of Maggie.

I took the picture from her hand. "Thanks." I said about to turn around.

"Do you know her?" Tasha asked.

I looked at her. "Why would I have a picture of her if I didn't know her?"

She shrugged.

"No, I don't know her." I then said with a smirk.

Her head snapped up. "I know her, and I could take you too her! But then you would have to go against your whole 'I travel alone' thing." She said, mimicking my voice.

"Yeah I suppose I will have to go against it." I said smiling at her.

"Really?" She asked with a shocked look on her face.

"Yes really. Unless, of course, you don't want to come." I said to her with a serious look on my face.

"No, no, I want to come, I was just shocked that you would let me."

I nodded my head in agreement. "Just don't annoy me too much."

She smiled at what I said but it wasn't a happy smile, it was a sad smile.

I frowned. "Did I say something?"

Her smile faded altogether then. "No you just remind me of my sister. I lost her."

"When all this happened?" I asked.

"No, I lost her a month before this happened." I nodded at her answer.

"Well, better get going. Never good to stay in one place too long." I said trying to change the subject.

She picked up her bag. "Right, staying in one place too long gets you killed." She muttered. At least she understands that, unlike Mika. God and I thought I was finally starting to stop thinking about her.
