Cedric had a fault and it was that would cost him dearly, he was impatient. He did not wait for the sun to rise the next morning but rushed to the tower and called for Rapunzel. It was a still, silent night but he did not care, he only thought of the news he carried.
"Cedric? What on earth has brought you here at this hour?" Rapunzel asked with a surprised smile on her face.
"I bear news of great importance. I know the truth about you and your parents. Your parents loved you. They really did. Medecka told you lies about them. She stole you from them and kept you here for her own motives." Cedric told Rapunzel whose smile had turned into a frown.
She furrowed her eyebrows in confusion and disbelief. "M..Medecka has been lying to me all this time? Oh, how could she. Why has she done this to me? Why?" The look in Rapunzel's eyes implored Cedric to tell her all he knew. And Cedric told her everything with not a single detail left out.Tears leaked out of her eyes when Cedric ended his story. It pained Cedric to see her so upset so he wrapped his arms around her.
"Sweetheart, please do not cry, it pains me so. Let me take you away from here." Cedric whispered into her ear. She looked up from his embrace and nodded.
"I will come for you tomorrow but for now I must go before Medecka comes for her visit." Cedric kissed her sweetly before he left to plan for her escape.
Meanwhile, Medecka, who had been awoken by Cedric's call to Rapunzel, was seething with rage as she looked into The Eye, a small pool of enchanted water that allowed Medecka to see and hear anything should she wish it.
At first she had been slightly amused when Cedric, began to watch the tower every day. Medecka decided to see how everything would play out and purposely allowed Cedric to see her calling for Rapunzel. Now, Medecka was tired of this little game she was playing and intended to see it to its end, in her favour of course. She tapped her finger to her chin as she thought of what diabolical thing to do.
Suddenlly it came to her. She clenched her fist in excitement and her eyes revealed a triumphant glint. She called up Rapunzel's image in The Eye and casted her spell.
"On this fair maiden tragedy shall strike. Though soft and golden her hair, it will become a nightmare. Should one utter the words 'I love you', a noose shall wring thy neck!"
Satisfied with her spell, Medecka waited in anticipation for the coming day.
When evening descended on the kingdom, Cedric was ready to rescue Rapunzel. He quickly climbed up the tower and tied the rope he brought with him to the bed post. Both Rapunzel and Cedric made their way down and ran into the Dryad Forest. Rapunzel was so happy, she was glowing so iridescently it made her look like an angel.
Cedric turned to her, "Rapunzel, I must tell you this. I..I love you.", he whispered softly into her ear. The second he said it, a rope of golden hair was around Cedric's neck, tightening with every second. Rapunzel cried out and tried to uncoil her hair from his neck but it was no use. If she loosened it a little it would tighten up twice over.
Then, Rapunzel saw Cedric's sword on his hip and unsheathed it. She knew that trying to cut at her hair would be useless so she did the only thing she could think of and plunged the sword into her stomach.
All at once the golden strands of hair lost their strength and slipped from Cedric's throat. Cedric fell to his knees beside her on the forest floor. Rapunzel was slowly slipping away and he felt so helpless. He took the sword from her body and embraced her.
Rapunzel whispered with her last breath,"I love you too Cedric. I always will." She closed her eyes and she was gone.
"No!" Cedric's cry echoed throughout the kingdom. He buried his face into her golden hair and wept.
Cedric felt a tap on his shoulder, a few men and women with fayish features surrounded him. One man bowed respectfully, "Your highness, let us take her. We will know what to do."
