Devon thought the new kid was good looking in a rugged kind of way. Light olive skin, average height, curly brown hair. He looked very alarmed. He was avoiding her glare.
"Do you think he knows we're his tour guides?" Devon asked, turning to her right, expecting to find her brother. Instead, emptiness.
"Daniel?" She asked the air, spinning around. A loud chorus of "Hey!" and "Watch it, dumbass!" Caught Devon's attention. Taking her eye off the new kid, she spun around 180° to see a boy sprinting down the corridor, sending papers and books flying.
"I," he panted, putting his hands on his knees, "Am completely and utterly on time."
Devon rolled her eyes, before patting her brother on the back. "C'mon, we have tours to give!" She threw up sarcastic jazz hands as her and Daniel made their way over to the new kid, who was still standing awkwardly.
"Welcome to Fordes Academy, newbie."
"We're your tour guides."
"I'm Devon."
"I'm Daniel"
"Siblings."
"Twins!"
"Fraternal."
"Obvs."
Barely leaving time for the boy to process the information, Daniel looked down at the clipboard in his hand. "You're... Alexander Healy, right?"
"Alec." He wavered.
"Well, Alec, it's great to meet you." Daniel shined. He was the more radiant, charismatic of the two.
"Okay, we'll start with-" Devon started before seeing a large figure walking her way.
"Lord have mercy." She groaned.
"Miss Harrington, may I remind you that guiding tours does not get you out of punishment." The middle-aged, admittedly round, man said sternly, handing Devon a red slip of paper.
"What was that for?" She retaliated.
"Uniform breach." He gestured to her shirt, which was tied into a crop top.
She rolled her eyes once again as the man walked away. Devon stared in anger at a second slip hidden underneath the first.
"Why have I got two?" She yelled down the corridor, drawing attention.
"Gum, Miss Harrington!" A disembodied voice echoed from across the length of room.
"Asshole." Devon grumbled, turning back to Daniel and Alec.
"Principal Fordes," Daniel started explaining to Alec. "Quite stern...."
"Quite morbidly obese and in a failing marriage." Devon finished, smiling sarcastically. She took the two pieces of paper and tore them up, scarlet confetti littering the floor.
"...Swiftly continuing with the tour."
A half hour later, they had made their way through multiple corridors and classrooms. Along the way, Alec had pointed out an individual or two. Devon replied with some half-assed rumour and that was that.
They were in the math corridor when Alec saw a girl leaning against a locker. She looked bored. She had curly blonde hair and dull brown eyes. She wore eyeliner and spared no cash when it came to vintage band tees.
"Who is that?" Alec stared. He wasn't attracted to her, but for some reason could not take his eyes off of the girl.
"Elle Addams. Her parents didn't hug her enough as a child, so she brought liquid eyeliner and takes her anger out through music." Devon explained. "And when she's not strumming guitars, well..."
