Never Prepared

My eyes eagerly scanned the shelves on isle 3 in search of laundry detergent.

I bent down. " Oahu Breeze...hm. " I thought aloud.

I picked up the tub with one hand, and put it in the cart, holding my grocery list in the other.

I laughed to myself.

' How very me... I just had to put " mochi " on the list. I'm such a responsible adult. '

I went to the frozen food section, the chill giving me gentle goosebumps as I looked hopefully around for strawberry mochi, my favorite.

Aha! Found it~

After checking out and getting into my car, I began to remember what had happened yesterday in the bathrooms.

' I wonder what those girls were talking about? A new student..and a handsome one at that. But that's so weird they'd mention that, right? I mean, this isn't highschool. Its a...very strange college, I guess. I doubt I'll get involved considering, well, me. I don't really care for boys.'

The trees were swaying lightly in the wind outside as people leisurely walked their dogs along the streets.

I give a little sigh of contentment. Life is not easy, but little moments like these that mean nothing to some people, can really make others happy. Even if it's the most simple of things.

I unlock my bright red door with my keys, which has a small strawberry charm on it, which I've had since I was young, and push it open.

" I'm home Pokie~ " I call out cheerily.

It was always a relief when I had a long day to come home to someone who loves me, and who I love. You know, someone you can talk to about your day, even if it is just your cat.

Instead of the soft fur rubbing up against my leg and the loud meow saying, " feed me! ", I hear silence.

I set down the groceries on the table. " Pokie? " I say a little louder, a hint of worry drawing at the end of my words.

Silence.

This is abnormal. She always comes to the door...maybe she's been abducted. Or maybe worse, maybe-

There was a knock coming from the spare room. It's a bit dense, kind of like a thud.

Thud
Thud
Thud
Thud.

' Oh God I'm going to die aren't I? This can't be happening. What if there's a robber, what if they have a gun and shot Pokie and they're going to take all of my stuff and kidnap me and- no, stop it. This is not real, it was just a sound. nothing bad is happening '

A small paranoid voice in the very back of my head whispered to me, silencing my logical thinking.

But what if something bad is happening?

This, my friends, was the OCD kicking in.

Should I go check? What if I killed? More importantly...who would feed Pokie? ( I think I need to get my priorities checked )

I grab the nearest object I can find ( butter knife ) and walk shakily step down the hall, the spare room peeking open with a bit of light.

I should not go in there. Reason #1, I could die. Reason #2, Pokie could die. And Reason #3, well...I'll just leave that to your imagination.

I take a deep breath, gripping my butter knife so hard, my knuckles turned white, and kicked open the door.

Oh. My. Crackers.

There are two men sitting on the bed, one with dark hair on top of the other man, who had an electric purply gray hair color.

" Shit. "

I scream as loud as I can and throw the butter knife in their direction.

' I KNEW IT I KNEW I KNEW IT!!! TWO CREEPS BROKE INTO MY HOME!!!!!'

They quickly fall off of each other in alarm.

" Hey! Shh, calm down we're not going to hurt you! "

My eyes are wide, and by this time, I now had a Hamlet in my hand, ready to smash anyone who steps any closer.

The Purpley Gray haired one held up his hands. " It's okay.. and I swear that is not what it looked like, he- he fell, and the boxes they- "

I hold the book up higher. " Who do you think you are? Why the hell are you in my house?" I said, almost yelling more than I was questioning.

He flinched. " Oh... " He kind of laughed, except it was extremely nervous, and filled with regret. " You..you must be my new roommate then? Is it- Y/N? " He asked shyly.

It was at that moment, I truly felt panic.

The book subconsciously lowers, as I try to process this out in my scrambled mind.

Being as it may, I'm not very good at words.

" So you're gay? "

I could see him mentally facepalm. He takes a deep breath and smiles. " No. No I am not gay. It just so happens that my boxes- full of my stuff because I'm moving in- fell down and my friend here tripped and bumped into me. And then, you walked in. "

I shoot him a quizzical look and glance at the other male, who's looking down with shame.

I clear my throat. " Oh yeah? Then why didn't I know I was getting a roommate? The managers have to tell you that stuff you know? "

He shrugged. " I don't know. But knew all about you, and so I was going to move in and get settled, then introduce myself when you got home. Guess that plan's foiled. "

I shake my head of all the words, the factories in my head working full time.

I suddenly catch a green glint from under the bed, instantly recognizing it as the terrified stare of Pokie.

I bend down. " Pokie, come here! "

She dashes from under the bed, bolting around the door frame and out into the unknown corners of the house.

I put a hand on my head. " What's your name? "

He bows shamelessly, and pops his head back up with a charming smile.

" Park Jimin. Your new roommate. "
