The cold rain slowly ran down the window pane. It was a monday morning, two days after her mother's death. The world seemed so lonely without her mother, it seemed to hold nothing but pure pain and sorrow, like there was never any happiness, not in this moment, not ever.
It was currently 8:30am, she had been up all night crying over the loss of her mother. Y/n was deep in thought, remembering the times she shared with her mother. Her phone started ringing bringing her out from reminiscing of her past memories. She slowly extended her hand to grab her phone.
"Hello?" Her voice was slightly shaky from all the crying, she clearly her throat so she could talk clearly.
"Hey, Y/n. How are you holding up?" The familiar soothing female voice asked, Y/n felt slightly better knowing that someone out there was wondering how she felt, knowing someone cared.
"To be honest, I'm not doing too well." Y/n replied. She heard her friend let out a soft sigh from the otherside of the phone. "How are you, Rosa?" Y/n asked, not wanting to stay on this topic.
"I'm doing good. I'm going out with the girls today, do you perhaps want to join us?" Rosa's sweet voice asked.
"I don't know, i'm not really feeling like going out today." Y/n answered her friend.
"Oh c'mon Y/n! you'd love it. It would be a way for you to get out of the house" Rosa insisted.
"Rosa, I'm just mourning the loss of my mom. I don't think I should go out at this time" Y/n said slightly harsher than she meant.
"Maybe getting out is the exact thing you need! You already stay in the house too much, you can't use your mother's death as another excuse to stay inside" Rosa tried to reason with Y/n, one would even say she was begging Y/n to get outside.
"Rosa, perhaps it's just safer to stay inside. Ever since that day I, I just don't, I don't want something like that to happen again. I don't want to go through that again. Besides it's raining, how much fun can you have in rain?" Y/n tried reasoning with her friend Rosa.
"Y/n, you can't let that incident stop you from enjoying life. Yes it could always happen again but don't let it control your future, your actions. You can still lead a beautiful life. Please, Just come out with me and the girls, and if you decide that you don't like it than we can leave" Rosa said.
Y/n slowly nodded her head before answering her friend "Okay, I'll go" suddenly a loud squeal erupted from the otherside of the phone making Y/n flinch in response.
"Yes! finally! I've finally convinced you to get out of that awful house!" Rosa cheered.
"Hey! don't call my house awful. You saying that makes me want to change my mind, maybe I won't go out after all" Y/n playfully said.
"I'm going to hang up than get in my car and i'm going to drive to your awful house. okay?" Rosa giggled
"Keep calling my house awful and I'll show you something awful" Y/n grinned, a small giggle escaped her lips.
"Bye~" Rosa said in a high pitched voice.
"Bye~" Y/n giggled.
Talking with Rosa had brighten Y/n's mood. Rosa just had a way of making Y/n's life a bit happier, just a little easier to deal with.
The sounds of laughter filled the house, it was a sunny saturday afternoon. The two young girls played with their dolls, pretending to be two princesses who ruled over a kingdom together until a charming young prince came to the kingdom. The princesses were head over heels for the young prince, he was everything that they had hoped for, even dreamed of.
"I want to marry the prince!" Y/n's doll said.
"No! I want him! I love him!" Rosa's doll said. Y/n and Rosa made their dolls playfully fight. Y/n knocked Rosa's doll out of her hand causing Y/n to cheer and Rosa to pout.
"Yeah! I win! I get to have the prince!" Y/n shouted, laughing. She grabbed the male doll and started pretending that they where out on a date until Y/n noticed her friend, Rosa stopped playing. "Rosa? Why aren't you playing anymore?" Y/n asked. Rosa shook her and continued to pout. Y/n stopped playing with her dolls and moved closer to her friend. "Rosa, what's wrong?" Y/n asked again. Rosa looked up from the ground, her eyes looking into Y/n's. Her eyes were fighting back tears. "Why are you crying?" Y/n asked.
"Because, You always win!" Rosa said, tears finally escaping from her eyes. Regret and sadness quickly came over Y/n when she realized that Rosa was right, Y/n had always made it to where she would win and she never let Rosa get to win. Y/n's hand slowly reached for the male doll, once she got a hold of it she handed it to Rosa. "Here, You would be a way cuter couple together" Y/n smiled. Rosa's eyes widen, she quickly took the male doll and started playing with it and her princess doll. Y/n was glad to see her friend happy, she never meant to hurt her friends feelings, she cared too much about her friend.
"Y/n, we never said what our dolls names are" Rosa reminded Y/n.
"No we didn't, what should we name them?" Y/n asked.
"Hmm, I'm gonna name mine Princess Rose!" Rosa beamed.
"That's really similar to your real name though" Y/n pointed out.
"I know, but I can't think of any other names right now" Rosa shrugged "What about you? What's your dolls name going to be?"
Y/n thought for a moment. She didn't want a boring name. She wanted a name that had meaning. She wanted something that she would remember when she was older, when she was no longer a small 5 year old girl that only lived in the moment that didn't have any worries about the future. She wanted a name that she could remember and smile or even laugh about just to make her future self happy. She smiled to herself when she found the right name.
"Pearl" Y/n smiled at the name.
"But isn't that your middle name?" Rosa pointed out.
"It is, but it has a great meaning behind it" Y/n said looking at her friend. Rosa nodded her head not caring enough to ask what the meaning was. Then they continued to play with their dolls like nothing ever happened, with no care in the world.
The sound of Y/n's doorbell brought her out of her memories that brought her happiness, Still till this day she remembered the dolls name. Y/n got up from her seat, she walked to the door and opened it to reveal her childhood friend. Rosa. Y/n gave her friend a small smile.
"You ready bestie~?" Rosa beamed. Y/n nodded her head. She grabbed her purse from her table by the door. Y/n closed her house's door locking it behind her. She then followed Rosa to the car. Rosa got in and turned the car on.
"You are going to have the time of your life, Y/n!" Rosa cheerfully said. Y/n nodded her head. "I hope so" She softly said as Rosa backed the car out of Y/n's driveway.
