By the time I looked back it was to late, the ghouls had overwhelmed Jonathan. His screams rang out and were soon blocked out by my own raging yell. I aimed my rifle and took them out, and got to him. My eyes bored into his wounds, as he twitched and screamed in agony, chunks of his flesh lay around him and I could smell the metallic scent, I knew he was suffering, and it had to be ended "I'm sorry..." I said to him, just as his eyes met mine, a shroud of sorrow fell over me, I aimed my rifle, and squeezed the trigger almost instantly; gone. I felt anger run through me and turned around to see bright flash's dancing around me, the others were keeping a way out clear while the herd attacking got heavier. "Guys we need to move now!" Sarah urged, just as she'd stabbed one and then switched to her pistol. I began to fall back towards her, firing at the ghouls that were closest. I was in the middle of it all, moving as quickly as I could. "Bo, move!" Willard yelled and like a mindless instinct, I faced the rotting corpses closing in. Almost instantly they fell where they stood, but my arm burned with pain, I turned to face Willard and just as I did, I could see his eyes were filled with horror, he quickly got to me and pulled me along with him as we made our way to Sarah. Annie stepped up beside him, ripped a strip of her shirt off and tied it around my arm, above the wound tightly to restrict the flow of blood. Willard grabbed my bag and swung it over his shoulder. My rifle dangled over mine. Carter dropped back to join us, Emily beside him. He peered over and in the dimly lot night soon saw that I was bleeding. "Bullet wound." I assured him, giving a smile of relief. Emily looked at me. And she could have said a hundred things right then to try and make me feel better. But she gave a simple nod instead. "Road or into the woods?" Emily asked urgently "Stick to the road," Sarah replied, her pistol in hand, rifle jumping around behind her "we need to find a vehicle, get some distance, and keep moving." She continued, "We're still going through with this run."
