"I've been living in the darkness"

I climb up the gate to the place I've come to know as Alexandria. It's been about 5 1/2 hours since the sun has set, so it's probably around 3 am.
I jump once I'm halfway down the gate inside, landing in a squat with one hand on the ground for support. I have been stealing supplies from here for about 4 months, and I haven't been caught yet.
I run my hand over my knife that's tucked into my jeans, then make a dash for the closest building to hide behind.
I put my back against a house, bending at the knees so I'm below the window. I carefully side step any branches or crunchy leaves that could be noisy.
I dip behind a few more houses till the supply garage is in sight, right as I'm about to make a run for it, I hear footsteps coming from the street. I warily peek around the corner of the house to see who it is.
It's a boy. He looks around the age of 18, but I can't really tell because of the bandage covering half of his face.
I exhale the breath I was holding as he passed the house I'm behind. I carefully run on my toes behind his back, without noise. Right as a slip behind another building, this one closer to the food shed, I hear him call out.
"Hello?"
I keep my back pressed to the wall, my hand now to the handle of my knife.
Finally, I hear as sigh and footsteps walk away to the other direction. I creep around the front of the house to look at the street, I see no one.
I smile and jog over to the supply garage.
I reach under the plant these people keep an extra key under and unlock the door.
I enter the room with shelves of dry foods and cans.
I quickly begin packing food and water bottles into my sack, until I hear the click of a gun behind me.
"Don't move." A deep male voice says.
My hands are frozen on the shelf and the only noise in the room you can hear over the tension is breathing.
"Put your hands up and slowly turn around."
I do as he says and realize it's the boy I saw earlier, only now he has his gun in my face.
"You're going to slowly pull the cans back out of your bag and hand them to me."
I nod, grab the first can of green beans and hand them to him. Then grab the second can, and hit him as hard as I can in the temple with it.
As he's groaning in pain, I duck behind another shelf, the room is dark so it should make it difficult for him to see me. Especially since he only has one eye.
"You shouldn't have done that." He says with a chuckle.
My eyes widen when I realize that I should've taken that chance to run.
His footsteps begin making his way toward my aisle, not wanting to stand or create a shuffling noise that crawling would give, I forward roll into the next set of food shelves. I now was right by the door and took my chance.
I sling the door open and ran quickly into the town, not caring who saw me. I just needed to get out before I got killed.
A fast thud of footsteps follows my trail. Finally I reach the gate, only to get up maybe 4 feet. A pair of hands wrap around my ankles and pull me to the ground, knocking the air out of my lungs.
The boy gets on top of me, pinning me.
"Look, I didn't want to do this."
I begin to cry and shake slightly, realizing I'm going to die.
"Please, my group just needs food." I start.
The boy sighs,
"Don't worry you'll wake up soon." He says before elbowing me in the head, knocking me out cold.
