Some Important Terms

These are just some random terms/words that I noticed some people getting mixed up (all the time). So I hope these will help clear up some of the confusion!

1.) Hangeul (한글) [We'll get to learning the alphabet later haha]
Hangeul is the Korean Alphabet. It is not the Korean language. So saying "I know Hangeul" does not equate to saying you know how to speak Korean.

Hangeul was taken from Hanja - these are the Chinese characters they used in the olden times before King Sejong the Great created the characters we now use.

King Sejong also has that monument in Gwanghwamun Square (you always see this in Korean shows) (:

2.) Hangugeo (한국어) / Hangungmal (한국말)

This is the Korean language. I think this is pretty clear haha.
"mal" means word (:

3.) Hanguk (한국) Korea / Daehanminguk (대한민국) Republic of Korea

That's why you get Hanguk (Korea) + Mal (word) = Korean language (:
Daehanminguk is also that cheer they use during the World Cup if you ever saw/heard it ^^~

4.) Hangugin (한국인) / Hanguk saram (한국사람)
 A Korean/ Korean person

I'll end here for now (my eyes are really fatigued ;;)! Meanwhile, ask your friends to come over and join us so we can all learn together!
