Prologue

If chosen, a mission is given; a mission to change a person with a heart full of rage and cold, to feel compassion and love. An unknown traveler must complete this mission within 3 months’ time; to prove the mission is complete a test is shown to the victim to see if they have truly felt love.

…1949, Palos Verdes …

Winds whistled violently, snow poured mercilessly and waves crashed against the cliffs. It was cold and heavy. A young girl of silver hair ran protecting her crying baby from the snow and what’s to come. She stopped in the end of the cliffs and laid her child on the ground. She quickly drew a circle with a pagan star in the center.

“Quickly!” A voice boomed.

She placed the child inside and screamed.

I call upon the four corners,

North, South, East, and West,

To craft this spell in the fire,

Craft it well weave it higher,

Weave it now of shining flame,

None shall come to hurt or maim,

None shall pass no none at all,

Protect this child I ask of thee,

Protect this child now till it can see,

As I Ask,

So Mote It Be!

Flash of light came up from the ground creating a shield. Suddenly a ball of energy envelops the child. It floated up away from the ground and suddenly was sucked inside the rocks. The baby’s cries are gone, only the sounds of the wind and snow could be heard. Her heart broke into pieces. She didn’t want this. Yet it happened. She was a fool for believing, for loving. For loving a mortal. She thought she could change him but he was no different than the rest of them.

Her heart was starting to feel the hatred and to feel the light inside her slowly diminish.

‘No Galatea, you mustn’t follow…. You must keep your light. Or you can never come back.’ The same voice warned, ‘Your child is safe, please come back.’

Before she could respond, a familiar voice called her name.

“Galatea!”

“Philip.” She whispered, her eyes suddenly changed, full of hope. He came back, she thought.

“Galatea, where’s our child? What have you done?” Panic crossed his face, he grabbed her shoulders and shook her, “Did you use magic on our child?”

“Yes, our child is safe now.”

He pushed her on the ground, “How could you?”

She clutched at her chest, pain, pain doubled at the thought of losing her child, and losing her one and only. But hatred came over him that he couldn’t see what she did was to protect their child. Could he not see that?

“I was only protecting…”

“Protecting?...you just ruined this marriage by killing our child!”

“No…”

“Galatea, I…I…cannot do this. I cannot love you anymore.”

“No,…Phillip, please. Listen to me, “ she begged, “Listen to your heart!!!”

“Listen to my Heart? I never loved you! You cast a spell on me.” Pain doubled, she was losing him.

“No…Listen to your heart Phillip!” she begged, “I LOVE YOU!!” She grabbed his arm and tried to look into his eyes. He pulled his arm away and walked away. “It’s over Galatea, we are finished.”

She watched as his figure slowly disappear from the storm, pain doubled in her chest as her heart slowly stopped beating. She collapsed, “Galatea, your child is safe,” a pair of arms held her. She looked up, “Marius, my dear brother.”

Marius held Galatea in his arms, knowing she will leave this world soon. She shifted in his arms, “Marius,” she said dryly, “Please take care of...of...” With her last breath, she was gone. Marius held his sister’s body until she sparkled away.

Tears flowed down his face, “I promise.”
