I found her not far from where the clearing was, where I had escaped from a creature that I had never seen before. She was lying there seemingly motionless when I saw her injury and the bloody rock beside her. I quickly put my shield on my back and checked for a pulse. She was still alive thankfully, I quickly picked her up and hurried back with a limp to the village, being careful not to run into anything else that could injure us along the way. ‘Thank goodness for her sky blue dress or else i would not have seen her.’ I thought to myself.
After we made it out I had no clue where to take her. She was a girl I simply followed out of curiosity after she smiled at me. That's when I remembered the small cart she had bought the medical supplies at, and I rushed her there.
"SIR! SIR! Please she needs help!" I said frantically as I approached the cart. I saw heads turn and heard gasps ripple through the crowd as I came running. I could only guess that she was well known throughout the village. The man turned around as I reached him.
"Oh,my... Bring her here lad!" He said pointing to a cot he had set up behind his stand. I gently set her down and sat back to let the man do his work. Moments later, I was pulled out of thought as the man asked a question.
"Do you know what happened Lad?" He asked me. I took a deep breath.
"Well I had followed her into the wood and she was using the supplies that she bought from you earlier to tend a creature... I can't identify it though." I said. Before I could continue the man spoke up.
"You're the lad from the new family aren't you?" I nodded in reply to his question and he continued. "Can you describe it?" I nodded again and continued.
"It looked to be a cross of a lion cub and an eagle. She then took it back to what if I had to guess, to be its family. That's when the adult attacked--" I was cut off again.
"Sounds like a griffin, we warn her every time to leave the damn beasts alone." He said now wrapping her head.
"But that's not how she got injured sir... I jumped in front of her with my shield before it could strike and I told her to run. I had managed to get away, following the path she took, that's when I found her passed out." Once I finished telling him what had happened, something caught our attention and we both looked at the girl. She opened her eyes and she looked at me and then the man.
"Good you're up Rose. How are you feeling? And be truthful with me," The man said. 'Rose' I repeated her name over and over in my head. Her name fit her perfectly.
"My head is pounding, Sir. Foy" She said as she gave him a look that she had heard it all before. The man dabbed her forehead with a damp cloth.
"Alright, stay here while I go get your parents." He then turned to me. "Keep dabbing her head for me and make sure she doesn't go anywhere laddie." He then walked off. I grabbed the cloth and went to continue to do his work. But before I could place the rag on her forehead she sat up.
"What are you doing?!?! You need to stay lying down!" I said as she hung her feet over the side of the cot facing in my direction.
"I know what he said I'm not going anywhere.... I wanted to thank you..." She smiled at me. This caught me off guard and I felt my face grow warm.
"I... I ummm..." I didn't get the sentence out before she laughed at my stuttering.
"If it wasn't for you, my good deed to Glory would of gone unknown, and I would've surely died. But I have one question." As she said this I looked up from my embarrassed gaze from down at my boots.
"And that would be?" I asked putting a smirk on my face.
"What's your name?" After she asked this only one thought ran through my mind. 'This girl takes me by surprise to much.' I gave a slight chuckle and wiped away a dried smear of blood out from under her eye.
"Damien, Damien Demlocken." I was looking her straight in the eyes as I said my name and dabbed her forehead. We then heard rushed footsteps coming towards us and we both looked in the direction of their source. There I saw a older woman, around the same age as my mother, and the owner of the stand rushing behind her.
“Oh My! Rose my child! Are you alright?!!?” The woman said. Rose seemed to be expecting this reaction from her.
“Yes, mother I'm alright. Where is father?” She was in the process of standing when her ankle buckled under her weight. I quickly stood up to to catch her forgetting about my own leg injury, that I had neglected to tell the owner of that cart. But I was able to stand with only minor pain. I then helped her resuscitate herself on the cot.
“There we go.” I said with a slight wince in my expression. Rose's mother then turned her gaze to me.
“You must be the lad that Sir. Foy was talking about. Thank you for saving her. I was going to head over to meet you and your family once Rose and her father got home. But I see you've already met Rose.” She said with a slight smile with a bit of a look of worry at Rose. I nod in response.
“Mother, that brings back my question, where is Father?” Rose asked as Sir. Foy began tendanding to her ankle.
“Ah yes, he is off working on a project at the meeting hall, he was to busy to stop. But he will be done soon. Now since I see you're in good hands I'm going back to the house to gather a few things.” Then she turned to me. “Once again thank you, and if you can do me the favor of bringing her to your place? I’ll be right behind you.” she smiled as she finished. Then was on her way to pick up something from their home.
