June 21st 8:19 am

After I got home last night I went straight to bed. Douglas spent the night and is there by the time I woke up.

He decided to stay until a little before dinner since he wouldn't be missed at home.

I lay on my bed staring face up at the ceiling while Douglas sat on the edge of my bed staring at my fox mask.

"So, you're in right?" he asked raising an eyebrow.

"Yep! And basically, all I had to do was make out with Calvin!"

"You did what? Who the heck is Calvin?" he yelled with a laugh.

"He's none of your concern!"

"I think he's much of my concern!"

"All I'm saying is that that boy knows how to work it." I smiled and winked at him.

Douglas smiled a weak smile as he rolled his eyes.

"I'm supposed to go meet the rest of them tomorrow." I say bitting the inside of my lip. "

" Great" he said with enough sarcasm to kill a mockingbird.  Yes, I went there.

I grabbed my fox mask out of his hands and ran my hand over the detailed carvings.

I smiled thinking of how I made him jealous, even though I knew he could never love me like that. I looked out my window at the small red bird perched on my window sill and thought of how much my dad loved birds, if not for my sister's uncontrollable fear of them, I know he would have many. Would've. I thought, my insides burning with fury at the horrible gang that killed him that I was now apart of.

I was always closer with my dad than my mom. I love my mom don't get me wrong, but it always felt like she had something more important to do than spend time with me.

She loved that I looked just like her, but Kaitlyn was always her favorite personality wise. My mom and my dad had a rocky relationship, I'm conviced they've had an affair at some point, but nothings been proven.

I snapped back into reality, as the bird flew away into the warm summer air. I looked back at Douglas as he scrolled through Twitter, laughing at a few posts. I sighed and rubbed y stomach. "You ready for breakfast?"

"I better be, or else I'm gonna miss out on some Waffle House." he smiled, standing up and heading toward the door, me trailing behind him.

I grabbed my mom's car keys off the counter and headed to her car parked in the driveway. Sure I only have my learners and not supposed to drive without an adult, but I didn't care, I'm a gangster remember?

We sit in our usual booth in the back, on the right-hand side. I pull the menu up to my face and begin to read, even though I already know what I want. Our usual waitress comes up to us and we order after she sets our silverware on the table. The minutes before our food come is filled with small chatter about video games and where we would want to vacation next if we could.

Before long the food arrives and we smile and laugh as we stuff our faces with bacon. The sun glinting off of our plates shines and makes the wall under the large window sparkle.

"My cousin Samantha is coming down for a while to stay with her parents and were going shopping this weekend in Albany and I was wondering if you wanted to come?" I ask putting a fork full of scrambled egg into my mouth.

"Wow! A whole day shopping with my best friend and her obnoxius cousin that goes to Harvard and won't hesitate to rub it in our faces. Can't wait!" he chuckled. "Yes, I'll come with you."

"Thank you, I didn't even want to go shopping with her but she called me insisited we go so now I'm stuck, I'm just glad her parents still live here, otherwise she'd stay at my house because her boyfreind also lives in Plains." I sigh.

"Is he coming to?" Douglas asked doing that head tilt again that was oh so irisisable. "I don'y know, probobly. He tags along with her everywhere." I laugh.

"Kinda like us." He smiled, his eyes looking into mine for a minute before he resumed eating. 'If only.' I thought.

After we finished, I payed the bill and we walked outside into the boiling heat that rudely made an appearance so early in the morning.

I get into the driver's seat of the car as Douglas begins laughing at something on his phone. "What?" I ask, he showed me his phone and turned up the volume, displaying a video of animals singing about what fox's say.

"There singing about you!'" he laughed referring to my fox mask. "Yeah, maybe so."
