Aksha laid in the den, watching her father as he sat beside Relic, her older sibling. She could only sigh as she watched them guard her, knowing they were on high alert. Since Aksha's littermate died, the pup had been unable to go anywhere. "This is so boring." She whispered to her sister, only to get no response. Keira was asleep, her little white body curled up in a ball. Unfortunately for her, Relic had heard his sister's voice.

"Keep your muzzle shut. Mother will be back with food soon. Close your eyes and sleep like your sister." Aksha whimpered, resting her head on her light brown paws. She just wanted to escape! This was stupid. Boring. It just wasn't fair. Her brother was the one foolish enough to run away and get eaten by foxes. She looked out at the clearing, unsure of how to escape. An idea came to her head.

I could run away from them!

Minutes felt like hours as Aksha waited for the right moment. She was now within the den entrance, awaiting her mother's return. Surely enough, the she-wolf appeared, an elk leg in her jaws. Two females padded beside her, meat in their jowls. Relic and Aksha's father bounded over to the trio of wolves.

"What took so long?" Relic questioned, nuzzling his mother's chest.

"We had to go all the way to Old Oxbow to find the herd. I have a feeling that pack has something to do with it." Aksha didn't wait long after that. As the adult wolves discussed the threatening pack, the pup bounded away, heading into the forest behind the den.
