The first thing that Izaya saw was white. It was blinding like freakishly white teeth. After a few minutes of waiting patiently for his eyes to focus he surveyed the room. It was similar to a hospital room with a few key differences that pointed out that it wasn't. Hikaru was sitting, sleeping, beside him in a chair that looked really uncomfortable with his head on the bed and drool escaping his mouth. He only had a few seconds to brace himself as a man in a white lab coat entered the room. The man's features were average, brown hair and eyes with glasses.
"Hi, I'm Shinra Kishitani. I was told of your amnesia by this guy", points to Hikaru, "and of your situation by Haru. You most likely don't remember me but I was a friend of yours before you left." Izaya just glanced weakly at Hikaru.
"Is he okay?" Shinra looked towards Hikaru and nodded. "The substance you both inhaled is called glugail. Its fairly new and is unknown how it got out to the public but it's starting to sell on the market. It is used as a substitute for anesthesia and much easier to get but less harmful. It it can really do is knock someone out."
Izaya gave out a relieved sigh and stared at his loved, relieved to know that he was safe. After a few moments Izaya turned to Shinra with a confused look on his face.
"You said you were a friend of mine?" Shinra looked up from his clipboard and started to give Izaya a quick checkup. "Yes we were."
"What happened?"
"You were fighting someone much stronger and lost after being shot," Shinra explained.
"Oh, well what was I like then?" Izaya asked.
"I think you should find that out yourself, after all that is one of the reasons why you are here. Right?" Izaya merely nodded to Shinra's uncertainty. Shinra paused what he was doing and looked up at Izaya, making eye contact. "But people do say that you are who you are by what you experience." They held each others gaze before Izaya broke it and stared at Hikaru, losing himself in thought.
A groan escaped from Hikaru as he was returning to the waking world. He opened his hazel eyes and met his gaze with Izaya's. Hikaru jumped up from the chair and latched himself onto Izaya.
"You're okay, right?", Hikaru looked towards Shinra. "He's alright?" Shinra nodded his response and Hikaru's bear hug on Izaya became stronger. Hikaru gave Shinra a questioning gaze and Shinra sighed before explaining again what they both breathed in. You could practically see gears turning in Hikaru's head as he realized something.
"Wait, so whoever sent those letters was waiting for us? Back in Hanaku?"
"Its possible." Shinra asked, "Haru mentioned that there was more than one letter, is that true?" Izaya just nodded but Hikaru explained that the letter they gave to Haru was the only letter that held that substance. Shinra gave it some thought.
"Maybe it's an enemy of yours, before you had amnesia." Both men gave Shinra confused looks. "You were an information broker and mostly worked for the Awakasu-kai, a yakuza group. You mostly meet up with Haruya Shiki from Awakasu-kai but you also have other clients. Most of those clients I realized were in abuse cases or missing persons. You're enemy might be affiliated with someone you've helped."
"By any chance, was Izaya skilled with any weapons?" Hikaru asked aloud.
"Yeah, he specialized in knives and even had a few switch blades on him at all times. Why the sudden curiosity?" Asked Shinra.
"I remember that I came over one time and Izaya was cooking dinner. I said something and must've spooked him because the knife he was using was suddenly beside me and embedded in the wall. He apologized and asked if I was okay when he realized what he did." Izaya nodded along as the memory resurfaced. He remembered feeling on edge that night and when he was spooked his instincts took over.
"Well it is a skill and skills usually stick with you no matter the situation, even if they do get rusty," Shinra explained. Izaya's mind trailed off the topic they were discussing and started sifting through the new information.
"Did I have any family" Izaya asked. The discussion Hikaru and Shinra were having stopped.
"Yes you have twin sisters, younger siblings. Neither of you mentioned your parents so i don't know about them."
Hikaru glanced at the time on his phone and nudged Izaya. Izaya looks up at him. "Its getting late so we should get going. Tahara and Yume must be getting worried," Hikaru explained and Izaya gave an affirmative hum. They get up to leave but Shinra grabs Izaya's arm before he's out the door. He shoves a small piece of folded paper into Izaya's hand.
"If you need any help or have any other questions you can call." Izaya nodded. "If we were friends, where were you when i was in a coma?"
That question put a frown on Shinra's face and was left unanswered as Izaya left his apartment.
So, hi. Um I have no excuses other than school and being lazy. I guess I just needed a break from this story because when I reread the last chapter I knew how to continue with this one. I might just stop writing in my notebook before posting and trying to be a chapter ahead. Its a good strategy but it sucks when you hit a writers block and feel bad that your readers have wait awhile before you post anything. So I'm sorry for not posting this chapter in a long while and hope that just because I didn't post for a time that you stopped reading.
If you find any mistakes, spelling or grammar, please comment and let me know. Thank you for reading.
