Reality Check

insomnia

    It's twelve a.m and for some reason I can't fall asleep again. This happens, it just gets worse sometimes.
    Staring around my room I see all my drawings taped up half hazardous.  Random animals,  people,  plants,  and items covering the papers.  Nobody's came in here besides me.  My parents never really caring to check up on me.
    -ding ding-
    A message?  That's right I gave Jacob my number.
    Hey James.  I know it's late but I wanted to see how you were.
    Even I can see the confusion spreading across my face.  Why would he be checking up on me.  It's not like I'm suicidal.
    "I'm fine?  How are you? " As I typed the words I said it in a hushed tone as if I were gonna wake someone up. 
    Going back to stairing at the ceiling I look closely at the drawings the cover it.  Some had color on it yet most we're near scribbles. 
    -ding ding-
    I'm doing fine.  Wanna sneak hang out?  If you aren't tired of course?
    A small smile tugs at the corners of my mouth.  This boy really likes to be around me doesn't he?  As far as I can remember he's always tried to hangout with me or at least walk with me.
    "Sure. Meet me at the park. " Pulling myself up and out of bed I stumble around trying to find some pants and a sweatshirt. 
    After finding those items I grab my wallet and keys walking down the stairs quietly as always.
    Slipping on some rundown shoes I slip put the door locking it behind me.  Walking down the street I head towards the park.  At night everything seemed to move.  The hallucinations did what they want.  Go where they want.
    Foot steps come at me with an alarming rate.  Turning my breath gets caught in my lungs but soon slowly flooding out. 
    Jacob.  Okay it's just him. "Hey James. " He says a happy tone in his voice. 
    "Jesus. Jacob,  you seem to always scare the shit out of me.  " Luna comes trotting up to me as graceful as ever.  Apparently at night she's gonna want to be with me while I'm out. 
    "Sorry. Wanna explore around?  I know some cool places. " He smiles his eyes being drawn to where I am crouched down petting Luna a small smile being warn on my face. 
    "Yeah sure.  Lead the way. " Looking back up I stand.  "Sorry." And awkward as hell laugh is released from both of us.
    "No it's fine.  What were you petting? " He asks erasing the confused look from his face,  instead replacing it with some curiosity.
    "The wolf.  I named her Luna.  She really sweet,  especially when I'm happy. " My little word tangent ends awkwardly.  "Sorry."
    His reaction was a strange i had never saw on his face before. "Although this probably isn't a good thing,  that you hallucinate,  I almost wish I could see the amazing things you see. "
    What he said wavered around in the air till it actually got to me.  "Its not pleasant Jacob. " I say slowly.  "Luna's nice though.  It's just the masked people who are terrifying.  Especially the cracked masked ones.  " James felt a little shiver down his spine as he saw a few of the masked ones look at him.
    "Maybe sometime you can tell me more about them.  You don't have to though. " Jacob smiles sweetly giving off this caring vibe that I'm not exactly used to.
    "I have draws.  Well a lot actually. They're in my room though. " I think for a second. It'd be easier to show him the drawings scattered about but there's so many duplicates of ones that it'll make me look even more insane than I probably am.  "Maybe I can show you? "
    Why'd I say that? My so called parents don't care sure but what if he spreads more rumors. What if people start to bully me?  I've seen the kids who get bullied around here, I don't want to end up like them.
    While my head was running at 50 miles per hour I didn't register what Jacob said. Looking down I see that Luna is just as frantic as I am. She was circling around faster then she generally walks.
    "Sorry what'd you say? " Jacob laughs a little at what I said leaving me puzzled.
    "I said you better not be kidnapping me. " His tone was clearly in a joking manner.  "But I'd love to see your artwork. " This releases a breathy chuckle from me.
    "It's not the best really. My hallucination drawings could use some work. " A small smile squeezes it's way onto my lips.  "But do you seriously want to see?"
    "You bet your ass I do.  Lead the way. " Jacob was clearly excited.  "Lead me to your layer. " He makes me smile more
    "Follow me then. " I turn walking towards my house as Luna follows beside me. Jacob eventually picks up the pace walking along side me as well.

    The walk to my house was quiet and quick.  Taking out my keys I unlock the front door. "Welcome." My voice comes out hushed as I let Jacob inside first.  Walking in after I lock the door behind us and quietly head upstairs.
