Guinea pigs have different personalities, just like us. But they do have some significant characteristics that define them. They are herbivores and therefore "fleeing animals". In the wild, they are prey for larger animals, such as birds and snakes. Because of this, they have an instinct to hide or run from any loud noise or sudden movement. But don't worry; they are easily tamed with a bit of patience. (More about this topic in the manual for caring for your guinea pigs)
If tamed, they can calmly sit in your lap, play with you, eat food from your hand and, well, get used to you. It might be very hard to approach them the first few days, and to say the least it's better not to do so and let them get used to their new environment.
Over all, guinea pigs are nice animals to keep as pets. They require time and affection, but it's truly worth it.
