Chapter 6

"What dresses are you girls interested in?" our assistant, Rilyn asked. I pulled out a dark rose colored princess-like gown that had beading all on the top part. I looked over at Lacy. "I don't know, what's the theme again?" I asked.

"It's a western theme," Lacy said eying a bright pink colored mermaid styled dress. I groaned. "Does that mean we have to wear cowboy boots and hats? I can't stand a country type prom. You know how ridiculous we'll all look," I objected.

"Harley, come on, it won't be that bad, plus you'll have me," Lacy assured me.

"I'm sure I can find something that would work," Rilyn butted in. I nodded and watched the blonde bimbo walk away.

"I can't believe you didn't know the theme before you accepted the offer from Quentin," Lacy said. I shrugged. "I wasn't even planning on going in the first place, although it'll be nice to show Hank what he missed out on," I replied.

"Is that why you said yes to Quentin?" Lacy asked.

"No, I think Quentin is nice, the Hank thing is just a perk," I answered. Lacy rolled her eyes and we continued on our search for the perfect dresses.

*********

"I think this is the one," Lacy said beaming at herself in the five mirrors. Rilyn sighed with relief. Lacy had been through what feels like thirty dresses and shoes within an hour and a half, each time she tried one on she would say something negative which forced Rilyn to put on a fake smile and help her find a new one. I hadn't even tried one on yet. "Great! You can go undress and we can pay for it up front," Rilyn said aggrevated. I shook my head and stood up. "I don't know, I'm not sure this color suits you. Peach makes you look like some sort of Skittle. Why don't you go find a more softer shade?" I suggested. Rilyn's smile dropped and she walked away.

"You're mean," Lacy stated, giggling.

"What ever do you mean?" I asked as if I didn't know.

"You know exactly what I mean. We're going to have to tip her," Lacy said.

"I don't think you can tip the cashier," I replied.

"We still have to find you a dress and who knows how long that will take," Lacy told me.

"It won't take long, trust me. No longer than thirty minutes," I assured her. Lacy rolled her eyes with a smile. "Whatever." Rilyn came back carrying a completely different dress. This one was more fluffy and was a very soft color of peach. "Oh you didn't have to drag that out, this is the one," I said. Rilyn huffed out a breath, it flying up a couple strands of hair and she stormed off.

"What'd you get?" Mom asked when I returned home. I shrugged. "A dress," I answered.

"Will I get to see it?" she asked.

"Maybe tonight. Quentin is picking me up," I said making my way up the stairs.

"I'm so glad your going to prom, Harley!" Mom exclaimed. I thought about Hank and how I would show him what he was missing out and how he looked over at me, no doubt paying attention to the conversation going on at my table yesterday. I smiled. "Me too."

I pulled the strings in the back and tied them up. My dress was a princess styled gown, a plum, dark purple color with gold sparkles on the ends and decorating the top. The strings in the back that I tied like a corset were also a matching darker plum. I slid my matching masquerade mask over my eyeshadowed eyes. I adjusted my straightened hair and put red lipstick on.

"Harley, are you ready?" Mom asked coming into my room. She placed a hand over her smiling mouth. "Oh, Harley you look beautiful," Mom said. I smiled. "Thank you, I'm dressed to impress you know," I said.
