~General POV~

February 13 - The Night Before Valentine's Day

Veronica's phone rang. She picked it up and answered, silencing that catchy song that she had assigned to her best friend. "Hey, B! What's up?" She saw Betty smile through the phone screen.

"Hey V. I, uh, I need your opinion on something," Betty said. Veronica saw Betty bite her lip.

"Yeah what is it?"

"Um," Betty shifted and grabbed something off camera,"what do you think of this for Jughead tomorrow?" A grin grew across Veronica's face, making Betty smile too.

"Betty, he'll love that!" A muffled giggle came through the phone.

"Well good. You know I'm awful at giving gifts."

"Trust me," Veronica assured her. "This'll be good."

February 14 - Valentine's Day

"Happy Valentine's Day, my valentine!" Betty exclaimed as she threw her arms around her boyfriend's neck from behind. Jughead was sitting at the lunch table, opening a bag of chips.

"You as well, my love." He pecked her lips and she joined him on the bench. Veronica, Archie, and Kevin sat across from them.

"Speaking of valentines," began Veronica, "here comes mine now!" She stood up and ran across the yard, colliding with Reggie Mantle, who was holding a large box of...something. Betty couldn't quite make out what it was.

She turned back to her boyfriend, who was just staring at her with a grin on his face. "What?"

He continued to look at her. "You are so beautiful." Betty felt herself blush and practically melted under his gaze. "You, are so gorgeous." Betty giggled and leaned into his shoulder. Jughead wrapped his arms around her.

"I don't deserve you," Jughead mumbled into her neck. Betty leaned back so she could see his face, but his arms still remained around her. She framed his face with her hands.

"You deserve the world and more." She leaned forward and her met her halfway in a sweet, slow kiss. It was gentle and perfect. Just perfect.

The bell rang, and students began to file out of homeroom. But Betty and Jughead stayed behind. "I got you this." Betty reached into her bookbag and pulled out a book with a leather cover and a small envelope. Jughead opened the envelope and inside was a gift card to Pop's and a piece of paper covered in doodles. Crowns, lines, hearts, and words littered the paper, creating a compact mural in black-and-white.

"Betts, it's beautiful." His eyes scanned over it and he found her signature near the bottom. He then picked up the book and flipped through it. It was only lined paper, with a message in the front cover. Jughead read it.

"For my one and only valentine. For when you are without your computer, and inspiration strikes you like that! Just like you inspire me. I love you. Forever."   - Betty

A tear formed in Jughead's eyes, but he didn't dare show it. Not yet.

"Okay," he said. "My turn." He opened his messenger bag and searched through it. She has no idea, he thought to himself. He pulled his hand out, presenting a book. But not just a book. Tied onto the center by satin ribbon was a ring. Betty's hands flew to her mouth, tears already spilling out of her eyes.

"OH MY GOD THAT'S CUTE." Betty and Jughead both turned to the voice. It belonged to Veronica, who was now slumped across an empty table.

Jughead got down on one knee. "This isn't a proposal. Not yet. But this is a promise. A promise that it one day will be. Because you are my home." Betty giggled as she finally read the cover of the book.

Home, by Toni Morrison.

He stood, and Betty threw herself against him. He hugged her back.

Best. Valentine's. Day. Ever.

I'm Veronica.

No really, that's actually what happened when my best friend and her "secret" boyfriend exchanged gifts.

I died.

It was great.

Happy Valentine's Day. You are all taken by me. Love you, and you are loved. <3
