Once upon a long-time ago,
You were the princess,
The darling of the royal court.
The one everybody loved.
You had everything,
You had it all.
But once upon a time,
That wasn't enough.
Once upon a sometime later,
He came into the picture:
Golden hair and azure eyes
The color of the skies.
Eros shot his arrow; it hit its target:
You were in love.
And he told you he loved you.
But only if you would help him
Betray your father.
He told you that you would run away,
Just the two of you,
And live happily-ever-after.
Too bad once upon a time,
He was a liar.
Once upon a time,
You believed him.
Every lie he spoon-fed you.
Because he told you he loved you,
And he was a hero,
He was your hero.
He only wanted his throne back.
You believed him,
No matter who got hurt.
He was your hero,
And why, oh why, would heroes lie?
But once upon a time,
Heroes weren't perfect.
Once upon a time,
He left you with kisses and promises
Of marriage; of the future
And disappeared.
But you had other things to worry about
Like the blood on your hands
And the ghosts plaguing your dreams.
He's going to come back,
You thought,
He's my hero!
But then, he reappeared,
And that's when everything went down-hill.
Gossip filled the streets.
Mouths chattered about only one topic.
Everywhere you went,
You heard the news,
The one that pierced your heart like an arrow.
Of course, you didn't believe it
(Unfortunately, denial isn't just a river in Egypt).
Until you went to check for yourself,
And the rumors, they weren't really rumors:
He really was getting married.
The man that told you he loved you.
Getting married to the princess of Corinth.
Once upon a reality check,
You finally realized that
He played you.
Did he really care about you?
Did he really love you?
Or was it just
A ruse
So you would do his dirty work?
And suddenly, it hits you:
Once upon a time,
Heroes lied.
You threw a fit of anger,
Of jealousy.
You didn't mean to kill the princess bride,
She was just in the way.
And once upon a time,
You became the villain.
So once upon a the-end time,
You laid on your death bed.
Away from your family,
Away from the ones you love.
You used to be cherished, revered.
But now you're just a bitter sorceress,
A criminal, a kin-slayer.
You had it all,
And he took it all away.
Once upon a future,
Everyone will tell stories of him,
The one-sandaled man,
The hero that fell from grace.
But no one will talk about you.
And once upon a time,
You just weren't fit to be a heroine,
Because once upon a time,
Heroes lied.
