It's a dream. The room full of mirrors, I can always see myself and a strange girl.
Her hair, gorgeous, jet-black, and long. Her eyes like gems. Lips, full and pink. If i could...
"Casey." Two more minutes, please. "Casey!"
I hear my sister's voice."Huh?" I open my eyes and see her energetic face right in front of me.
"Come on! It's time for school." She says."You know," I begin. "one day you'll be an old lady like me." I chuckle slightly.
I know we're only 2 years apart but we love to tease each other. We're more like best friends. And I absolutely love her to death, but she can be a pain in my ass. I honestly wish I was half the person she is.
"You're not that much older than me!"
I ruffle her hair. "Sure," I say with a smirk. "but you'll always pretend I'm younger."
I open my dresser and pull out my plain white tee and my black jeans."Now go ahead, I need to change."
May leaves the room while she fixes her hair.I change from my shitty sweat pants to my new clothes and look around my room. It's so strange how something so familiar can be so different than what you remember. I button my flannel and yank on my black skinny jeans.
Nostalgia is a funny thing.
But right now it feels like I'm just going through the motions. Wake up, get dressed, go to school, come home. My life is so... depressing. At least I have my sister and my friends. That's really all I need.
I walk through the thick fog of Washington my sister trailing behind me. She skips up to me.
"Hey. You ok?" She asks."Yeah of course." I smile. She puts her arm on my shoulders. And we walk together. I can feel my backpack weighing me down, dragging me away from school. Oh well. There's really no use in trying to fight it. For some reason I still do.
Living in Washington isn't that bad. Although even after 4 years I'm still not used to it. The fog is nice, it soothes me. The constant rain helps me sleep, but my insomnia usually still wins. At least May is happy.
- after school -
I exit the building and make my way through the yard. I already told May that I wasn't coming home right away. I head to the forest just to the left of the school. I enter the edge of the forest and sigh of relief.
"Ey Reddie!" A voice calls out behind me.
I turn my head to see a boy with dark hair running up to me. What is this dude doing?
"What?"
He catches up to me.
"Hey, Case!"
"How do you know my name?" Who is this boy? He can't be much older than me, but I have no clue who he is.
"Wow." He says. "You've got a lot to remember."
What? "Who the hell are you?"
Little did I know this was the start of the most important day of my life.
