Call me insane. If you know what high school feels like for normal people, try being in all honors. I begged my parents to put me in normal classes so I could be with my friends, but no, I can't. My life officially sucks.

Hi, I'm Hermione Nike. I go to Merryweather High in a small town in Ohio. I have a best friend named Lee Shang and a brother named Sophia. My brother is transgender, yes. But I don't care. I love him.

I had an almost normal life until my best friend disappeared. I got thrown into the past, trying to find him. And when I did, it was during a war. And my name was Mulan back then.

Yeah, like the Disney Mulan, except I didn't disguise myself as a boy. Not this time. Here's how it all went out. Let's begin with the part when I got into a argument with my brother.

-------------

"Hemmy! You're going to be late to school again!" My brother whined.

He was perched on my bed, wearing a skirt and a crop-top that could make boys kneel on the floor and beg. Probably not school appropriate. I sat up and sighed.

"Sophia, is that even allowed at school?" I asked.

"The school's dresscode for transgender people says that they can wear anything they want as long as it's not too scandalous." Sophia ran a hand through his short blond hair.

"So you want to be a pleasure toy for boys." I looked him over, knowing the answer.

"How did you know?" He mock-gasped. "Anyways, Lee is waiting outside to pick you up for school. Better get going."

"WHY DIDN'T YOU SAY THAT SOONER?" I shrieked, running towards my closet and throwing on a pair of clothes.

My brother laughed and walked out the door, going towards the bus stop to wait for the bus while I had to get dressed at the speed of light. I grabbed a bagel while flinging my backpack over my shoulders.

A black sedan was parked out on my driveway. The Chinese symbols for "Shang" were highlighted in bright blue on the sides. On the hood of the car had the ying/yang symbol on it.

A grinning face peered out the window at me. Lee Shang was grinning. Fucking grinning. He never does that. I raised my eyebrows at him and got into his car.

"What?" Lee asked, raising an eyebrow back.

"You're smiling." I said, pointing a finger at him.

He laughed, another surprise. He never does that either. I saw something on the screen of the car. A soundtrack, a DISNEY soundtrack, was playing. Mulan, it was. I knew that movie from the bottom of my pathetic little loveless heart

"You saw Mulan for the first time, didn't you?" I accused. "Without me."

"My sister made me watch it. She said it was time for me to learn about how olden Americans thought the ancient Chinese were like back then." Lee shrugged.
