BUZZ. BUZZ. I woke up to my phone vibrating on my nightstand. Who could be texting me at - I checked my watch - seven o' clock in the morning? Rubbing my eyes, I read the text.
'Hey Grace, it's Toby. I got your number from one of your friends. Just wondering if you could meet me outside the gym before school? (I'm still a bit lost.) :)'
I practically catapulted myself out of bed and pulled on my clothes. After brushing my hair I went over to my dressing table, and put on a bit more makeup than I usually wore. I looked at myself in the mirror, breathing deeply.
"Calm down." I told myself. "You are friends, and he just wants you to show him around a bit. Dont freak out." I repeated my mantra to myself a few more times then grabbed my bag and went downstairs. When I went into the kitchen to get breakfast, Mum was there making pancakes for my littles sisters, Katie and Ella.
"Hi sweetie." She said as I grabbed a cereal bar from the cupboard. "You look nice!"
"Thanks. Sorry but I cant stay, I'm meeting someone before class." I gave my mother a quick hug, and stuffed my feet into my shoes. "Bye!" I called as I ran out of the door and down the steps.
I looked over at Toby's house. The car was gone, and it didn't look like anyone was in. I walked a little bit quicker down the street, my backpack bouncing on my shoulders.
When I got to school I saw Toby on the steps outside the gym, frowning over a schedule.
"Hey!" I waved, and Toby looked up.
"Grace!" He said. "I need your help. Last week I was all in the same building, but now I'm all over the place. I can't find the art rooms anywhere." I checked my schedule.
"I've got art too, I'll show you." Toby grinned, making me smile aswell.
"Come on," he said. "We've got to be here in five minutes." We walked over to the art rooms, where, to my dismay, we saw that Rhiannon and her followers were in our class. We went to sit down, and Rhiannon beckoned Toby over to her table. He went over, and reluctantly I followed him.
"Toby!" Rhiannon said, rearranging her long golden locks. "I saved you a seat, next to me. I know how hard it can be to be new and not know anyone." Toby looked over at me.
"Actually," he said "I'm going to sit by Grace. She's been showing me around." Toby came and sat by me, on a table opposite Rhiannon.
"How many times are you going to defy her?" I asked. "She will get to you, like she has every other guy in this place."
"Eh, she's not my type. I prefer girls who are real, and lets face it, she isn't." I smiled.
"Good for you. And she is about as fake as they get." We then collapsed into a fit of giggles, under the envious gaze of our Queen Bee. Oh, how the tables had turned.
