Packing can be a real hassle.
You have to fold all your things and keep organized. Fortunately I don't have too many clothing items.
That's due to the fact that the schools I've been to so far, only permit school uniforms and certain attires, which prevents me from ever having to get new dresses.

I have two dark grey uniforms. One gown. Riding attire, meaning a helmet, a jacket, pants and a pair of boots.
That's it, excluding the underwear of course.

Since I don't live at my snobby parents' home, I don't need a fancy new dress everyday.
And to be honest, I'm fine with that.
Seems to make packing a lot easier.

I sigh closing my bag, my parents are going to kill me.

As much as I'm not looking forward to that, I am looking forward to seeing my sister . Well my younger sister.

My older sister Carmen can be a nuisance.

She's as stuck up as our parents. Always judging others and thinking the world revolves around her. She never finds anything I do, or for that matter anything really, amusing.

Contrary to my little sister Lucíana , or as I call her Lucie, who finds everything I do amusing.

Lucie is 9 years old and the embodiment of curiosity. She wants to know everything.
Always sticking her nose into everything.

She can be exhausting for my parents to handle, but I'm really glad she hasn't lost her light yet.
That she's not as dull and polished as all the others in this family seem to be.
I hope that my parents and her environment won't take effect on her and turn her into my sister.

I go over to my dresser to collect my jewelry and parfums. I don't own a lot of jewelry. Most of it I left behind.

What is still there is a ring my mother gave to me, another ring I got from my grandmother and a bracelet I found at a market. Three pairs of earrings that I never wear and most importantly a necklace Lucie gave to me.
I remember once, the day before I was supposed to leave for my first boarding school, we spent a day on the beach.
A beach full of pebbles. Lucie was really sad I had to go. She was very young and didn't fully understand why.
But nonetheless she collected a beautiful little stone. It had the color of amber. It would glow like a little sun.
So she made it into a necklace and right before I left, she gave it to me.
Telling me to think of her when I'm gone. And to always find the fun in things.
Yes, Luce is very sensible and smart. Especially for her age.
So now I carry this necklace around wherever I go. As a little part of Lucie.
And a little bit of the sun.

I make my way through the school campus.
I won't miss this school.
I won't miss all the manicured gardens, nor the big pretentious parlors and staircases with the dark blue cashmere curtains and diamond chandeliers.
Neither will I miss the people. The stuck up teachers or the goodie two shoes students. Especially "Lady" Augustina Foxwhilt and her minion Clarina Mindley.
There's only one person I'll miss.
And that's Penelope.
She's a student here and little bit of a goodie two shoes, I have to admit, but she's nice and the only friend I've made here.
Penelope is the daughter of a wealthy fabric merchant. She comes from a big business empire, the Cullière textiles.
She has long dark brown hair in which there's always some sort of accessory, like a hair clip or bow.
Probably because there's a school uniform policy and the only clothing pieces you can choose individually are little ones, like accessories.
When I first met Penelope, I didn't like her.
She seemed so boring and like everyone else.
But then one day, I had gotten myself into trouble, as usual, and Mrs Gorgonzala was lecturing me, also as usual, when there was a knock on the door.
Penelope came in, a slight smile grazing her face. As she stood there, fully upright and very well behaved, she started talking about a new idea for the student body.
Mrs Gorgonzala was so distracted by the ideas and also very pleased with Ps' behaviour as oppose to mine, that it allowed me to slip out.
Later when she came up to me, I found out that she had done it on purpose to help me out. That's when we started becoming good friends.

I was the troubled "rebellious" one and she was my opposite, the goodie two shoes.
Although at times she would unexpectedly do things that showed a completely different side of her. Like helping me out for example.
And that makes me think that maybe the only reason she's so good behaved is because she was made to be, shaped by her environment and society.
And that the courageous helper is who she really is. Her true self hidden deep down inside her.
But if everyone had been shaped so much that they kept their true personalities to themselves, then why wasn't I like most of them? Shaped by my snobby parents and wealthy surroundings? Troublesome and honest instead of a goodie two shoes?
