I walk through the halls of Hendrick Motorsports in a total daze. I can't focus on anything and it's like I am out of my body. Lack of sleep will do that to you. Let's see today is Thursday and the most amount of sleep I got was seven hours Monday night. The last three nights I am lucky I got five each night. The only reason I am up at 8AM is because I had to open the shop up for Jimmie's latest photoshoot for Pole Position Magazine. The shop is quite due to the fact that all the teams but #48 packed up really early this morning to head to Charlotte Motorspeedway for this weekends race. I turn on the lights to the room that houses Jimmie's #48 Ally Financial Chevy race car. I spend the next thirty minutes setting things up for my cousin Stacy, who is the photographer for this shoot. She could have done this herself but I sometimes help her in the off season, so I know how this works. Plus we are on limited time today. The crew has to be on the road to the track by 11AM and the shoot starts at 9. I just finish when Jimmie's familiar voice booms through the room.
"Someone has been a busy bee already." I look up to see him walking towards me. In a pair of jeans and Hendrick Motorsports hoodie. Sunglasses perched on the top of his head. When he reachs me he places a light kiss on my cheek. This action always brings a slight blush to my cheeks.
"I told Stacy I would set up for her. This has to be over my ten thirty. Your outfits are ready in your office. While your doing this I have this weekends press schedule to finalize." I go to walk away but Jimmie grabs my hand. That same electric feeling whenever he touches me, shots up my arm and through my entire body.
"Paige are you okay?" He asks concern laced in his voice. He can always tell when something is bothering me. When you know someone for seventeen years. Spend ten out of twelve months attached to each others hip, that happens. He's became my best friend and my wall of support especially this last year. I give him a smile hoping he doesn't see that it's a forced one and nod my head. He returns my smile and his hand slips from mine. Right away I miss his touch. The comfort and warmth it gives me. I walk away pushing back the tears. Tears of what I don't know. My phone rings and I see it's a text from Stacy. I go to the front door and let her in.
"Hey girl. Ooo rough night? You look tired." I roll my eyes. Leave it to Stacy to notice the obvious.
"Couldn't sleep." I say as she brings me into a hug. Pulling her case behind her she walks with me.
"Looks like you haven't slept in days. That Driver isn't working you to death is he?" I nod my head no and keep silent. I would like to keep the fact that Josh still haunts my dreams, a year later, a secret.
"Oh no tell me them dreams of Josh aren't back." I sigh. She has always been the most obsevent out of my five cousins. I don't say anything as we walk into the room where the car is at.
"Paige sweetie." She says stopping me by standing in front of me.
"I don't want to talk about it Stacy. I just want to forget about it. About him. Just leave it alone please." Stacy goes to say something but when her eyes catch something behind me she closes her mouth.
"Hey Stacy." Jimmie says walking over to us. He hugs Stacy.
"How are you Jimmie?" She asks.
"Good. You?"
"Good. I'll just be a few minutes setting up." Jimmie nods and walks away. I watch as Stacy watches him walk away. I smack her arm. She flinches and looks back at me.
"Doug." I say talking about her Husband.
"What? I can still look. I mean look at him." She says coming to stand next to me. I look at Jimmie. A pair of jeans hugs his legs and hips and his dark purple button down is snug but not too snug. His hair neatly in place and the little bit of grey in his stubble is just enough. He is one handsome man. I don't say anything. I can't admit that I find my boss sexy. For one it's unprofessional and two well okay I can't think of a second reason. Stacy nudges me.
